Wake Forest Basketball - '23-24 Schedule Thread

Didn't boozer sign a long term deal, adk out because his child needed a specialist and he wanted to play for a team close by but then signed with a team on the other side of the country? I feel like I remember that dipshitery

True, I don’t recall details, but I am remembering now that he went back on his contract in an unethical way. Everyone always commented about him doing this to a “blind owner” (of the Cavs?). Maybe his book he was advertising last night about “overcoming adversities” is an attempt to launder his past a bit. That’s what I get for dropping my cynicism defenses. Then again we should also allow people room to mature and change.

Of course he’ll never live down the sprayed on hair. Or, just, going to Duke.

Good spacing between road games... nothing terribly enraging overall. I gotta say, this is one of the better ACC slates for us that I can remember.

Agreed. No idea if it is related to complaints from Forbes (he's been vocal), but it's definitely a better schedule. Not starting on the road as we had for years and years in a row. Duke game not during student break. Good stuff.

Also no early December conference game like we’ve been doing for a few years
With the Final Four later this year (April 6th and 8th, as late as it possibly can be since the Masters always ends on the 2nd Sunday in April), that allowed for fewer conference games during December this year. 14 teams/7 games are scheduled for a conference game that first weekend in December, Wake was the odd man out this year. No other conference games scheduled until the weekend of December 30th/31st.

While this is close to meaningless, Torvik has adjusted his power ratings based on current roster construction (kenpom's has yet to provide his 2023-4 projections).

Torvik rates WF #67 in the nation (WF finished 2023 at #85) and projects WF to finish the regular season 17-12 (10-10) T for 7th in the ACC.

Here are Torvik's ACC projections:

1. Duke 15-5
2. UNC 14-6
3. Clemson 13-7
4. Miami and VT 12-8
6. UVA 11-9
7. GT and WF 10-10 (Torvik likes GT off-season adds)
9. Pitt, NC State and BC 9-11
12. Cuse 8-12
13. FSU 7-13
14. L'ville 6-14
15. ND 4-16 (this is kind; ND could be in the running for all-time worst ACC team)

If we get that Reid waiver, I'm thinking they're off by at least 40 spots. Between Cam, Sallis and Reid our defense should be solid for the first time in a while.

Get Damari back and ooo baby, we got a stew goin.

Can't argue too much with Torvik, though I think Clemson is likely worse than that. Losing Tyson is significant and I don't see adding Girard (& Clark) as an offset to that. I'd swap UVA and Clemson.

Think Wake will be better than 10-10, but I may be a little biased there.

No idea how Stoudamire will do with the coaching part of the job, but he definitely turned over that roster quickly (and has been doing work on the recruiting trail).

I’m really hoping that replacing Bradford, Davien, McCray, Taylor and Appleby with Reid (hopefully), Sallis, Boopie, Parker and Canka will be worth more than 18 spots. We know how important PG has bee. in our offense the last 2 years, but I’m not entirely sure that’s how Forbes wants it to be. I thought it would happen last year, but to be sure we will be more balanced offensively, better defensively, and deeper across the board.

I like the schedule. Five cupcakes and four power conference teams assured. Beat Utah in the opening game of the Charleston classic and one or two more power conference teams are added. Win all the OOC games and Wake will open the conference schedule as a ranked team. This is more like it for a Wake team looking to Dance.

The Athletic highlighted our conference schedule as easiest in the league:

Wake Forest has been just on the wrong side of the NCAA Tournament bubble the last two seasons, but is this the year Steve Forbes’ team gets in? Given the way the Demon Deacons’ end-of-year slate turned out, it’s certainly possible. Wake’s final four games — at Notre Dame and Virginia Tech, then home vs. Georgia Tech and Clemson — all come against teams that missed the NCAA Tournament last season, and the final two come in the comfort of home. (Plus, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech are both breaking in first-year head coaches on teams who aren’t expected to be incredibly competitive this season.)

That’s about as fortuitous a final four games as Forbes can ask for. Now all the Demon Deacons have to do is avoid a late-season slip-up against a subpar team, like it has against Boston College the last two seasons.”

I thought we missed the NIT last year.

8 of our 10 conference home games are on weekends. I love this schedule.

Damari makes the list of top shooters in CBB (only ACC player):

The #1 guy is a Japanese JUCO transfer who averaged 13.1 ppg off the bench shooting 50/40/86 on 5.2 3pt attempts a game. Similar to Jonah Antonio with more minutes.

The only concerns on the ACC schedule involve our away games at Duke and UNC. Both are scheduled on Mondays after we play at home on the previous Saturday. Thus, only one full practice day for each of our major rival games. Plus, prior to the game at Duke we play N.C. State on Saturday.
