Wake Golf 2024 - Going Back to Cali for the NCAA Title; Women: May 17-22; Men May 24-29

Agree there is really no difference between second and fifth, but winning a regional is a big achievement.

Was fun today and we made a great move on the back nine as Texas ,who we were playing with) faltered. Tuesday come out early as we should go off #1 starting about 8:00am.

An unfortunate double on 18 hurt but Deacs lead by 6 overall. She pushed it in to trees in right, punched out then wedge didn’t spin leaving her on top shelf with downhill breaker. That putt just missed & coasted to a stop on the fringe and took two more for the 6. Still a great -4 round of 68. UT gal bogied so that 1 stroke separates them.

The fact that we have legit 5 golfers who could contribute in any given round is huge. Obviously big for match play if we make it there too, but a lot of teams just have 4 and sometimes 3 folks who can contribute realistically.

Actually we have 6. Our 6th would be playing on almost any other team.
 
Duke and UVA have 3 strong, average 4 and insignificant 5. UVA shot plus 8 today while Stanford shot minus 14. UVA should still easily make the first 5 and qualify.

In the what might have been for Wake Amanda Sambach from Charlotte was recruited to UVA by Kim before she left and couldn’t flip her to Wake. Amanda’s Dad was convinced UVA would dominate the conference w the addition of Amanda and the new coach while good couldn’t bring in the supporting talent.

If we had gotten Amanda I believe we would be looking at a third straight championship. Too bad we didn’t have NIL then.

Might would be looking at a 3rd anyway if not for the Covid year. We were the best in the country that year.
 
Rachel showing her eliteness as starting to pull away for individual title halfway through the final round and Macy making a run for 2nd. Team win looking good at this point as well. Great way to dominant before championships.

Looks like Macy made an eagle on the par-4 11th. Wonder how far out she was with her approach
 
We are struggling down the stretch. Tied with Ole Miss and 1 up on Texas. Going to qualify easily, but not the exact way you want to finish heading into the finals.
And Rachel just bogeyed, so her lead is 1 with 2 to play.

spoke too soon as team struggled on back 9 and lost lead and Rachel now tied with one hole left.
