I didn’t disagree at the time, either.
Agreed, he had a unstoppable motor. Would be an asset to the team.

Wilkins is the 2nd leading scorer on Longwood, and they are undefeated in conference and the highest rated team in the Big South. Would love to see the Lancers with Wilkins make the NCAAs.
Also, Marcus Watson, a Manning commit, that thankfully never enrolled, played sparingly last year for a bad Western Illinois team, entered the transfer portal, and has not resurfaced with a D1 program. Hard to imagine how horrible WF basketball would be today if Currie had let Manning's contract dictate that he keep his job. At the time WF let go of Manning, this was the incoming recruiting class:
Marcus Watson - played 11 games for WIU in 2020; scored 28 points; not kidding, his shooting % were: 37% FT. 21% from 2; 6% from 3
Quadry Adams - played in 23 games for WF and St. Bonnie; has scored a total of 64 points. Shooting: 42% FT; 57% from 2; and 0% from 3; yes, Adams is a guard that has played 23 college basketball games, and he has never made a 3 point shot
Emanuel Okpomo: played in 18 games for WF and Temple: has scored a total of 20 points and is averaging 2 rebounds a game; he's buried on Temple's bench; has not played in a game since November 27th
Got to believe this would have been the worst 3 man recruiting class in ACC history, and possibly in Power V conference history. IIRC, when Currie was able to pull the trigger and dump Manning, WF was the only Power V school to make a coaching change that off-season because the pandemic had just started. Thank you god.
wasn't there another guy who committed to wake but changed his mind after manning got fired?
I do not miss any of those players.

Okpomo was a Forbes recruit.
Yes he was. That is called filling a barren cupboard with something so you have a squad. 3 months after Covid changed the world. Glad he was here so we could practice, wish him well at Temple, glad he left to give us Sy or Marsh.
actually Forbes had recruited Okpomo to ETSU before he originally committed to USF so he was more than just adding a last minute body. He had some solid offers & played for a top HS. I liked the pick up at the time & thought Okpomo had potential to contribute in a couple of years (he may still @ Temple). He was raw & fairly new to basketball but had decent physical tools & a good candidate for AK's player development.
Forbes is obviously a good recruiter but he'll certainly have a few misses along the way.
