Basketball recruiting update 4/10/11

FWIW, this is where I saw that we had offered

http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/1063309.html

From that link, apparently this guy likes us.

Julius Randle, PF, Texas Titans – When the big fella gets ticked off, look out. After a so-so first half during his 8 a.m. game, Randle turned up the ticker and began dominating the paint like someone rated as the nation’s top player. He’s a physical specimen that initiates contact when he’s attacking the basket. Randle is tough to stop when he turns over his right shoulder and he has good touch around the basket. To go with all that, he rebounds, swats shots and moves his feet very well. He went for 19 and 11 in the morning win.

Looks like the type of player folks have been talking about.

So many offers being extended. Any chance I shouldn't be taking that as Tabb has one foot out the door?

would we take two centers in 2012 even though we already have Washington

I hope we'd take the best players we can get. I remember the last time we had a bunch of bigs locked up and we didn't take a few guys who could have helped.

Heh. Speaking of glowing evals, from his ESPN profile:

He's a tough one to compare so we'll roll out Marvin Williams meets Caron Butler with a Kevin Garnett-ish motor. The left-hander is a pro in the making. He loves to catch on the blocks or extended, face and weigh his options. Not afraid to go glass and can drive it from mid-range going either way. Basically, he's a real problem. When he needs to, he can explode and is a conscientious rebounder. His touch around the rim and ability to leap multiple times is noteworthy. The young man has counters and power moves. If he likes his matchup, he'll dive right to the blocks and set up shop. There isn't a spot on the floor where he can't begin his drive or jumper. Likes the baseline too and will hit high-arching fadeaways. Randle owns a motor and has an affinity for playing hard.

One of the top overall prospects in America. There's no reason to think he can't be an all-american and all-pro someday; he's got that ceiling.

LOLZ! Absolutely absurd comparisons no matter the player in HS.

Pure speculation, but it does seem like we are expecting a few more openings at the rate we are offering 2012 guys. We have 3 2012 schollie offers out there with no available schollies if Tabb is back and we get lucky with Katenda.

Talked to Greg McClinton recently and we are #1 on his list. Not sure how strong of a #1, but he is #1. Followed by Louisville and Xavier. He has some strong suiters though.

He is planning on making his choice junior year, or start of senior year.

I know it's early, but this is great news. He would be a massive get.

McClinton would be a great get since we should be loaded up on shoot guards (and, as of right now, CJ will be the only player graduating that year).

So he's "Marvin Williams meets Caron Butler with a Kevin Garnett-ish motor" AND a "physical specimen"?

If Randle came to Wake it would be one of the biggest recruiting surprises in a while. UNC has already offered and they don't extend many offers to high school sophomores.

Love the news on McClinton and Woodbury. Would be great to get excited about recruiting again.

Pay article up on Scout about Katenda's visit to Iowa, but not a whole lot of info there. The Iowa boards don't seem optimistic.

So that would hint that we still lead for Katenda. Here is hoping for the shittiest weather ever in South Bend this weekend.

Katenda is ND's to lose imo.

We are gonna have a lot more good stuff up on BSD in weeks/months to come in terms of recruiting.

Another name for people to keep in mind: Arnaud Adala-Moto

Arnaud Adala Moto, SF, Team Takeover- Few players were as impressive on Friday night as the powerfully built 6-foot-6 wing. Most comfortable using his strength to get into the lane or bowl over opponents in transition, Adalo Moto showed surprisingly soft touch out to the three point line. He rebounds, plays defense and rattled off a list of Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Wake Forest, UNLV, Maryland, Xavier and George Mason.
