CBM Thread: Peacemaker Season 2; Gen V Season 2 (Sept 17); Marvel Zombies (Sept 24)

I get the sense that Wanda is going to be immensely important at some point in the future. Nobody really knows how much power she really wields. I imagine that she will have a big role in Infinity War.

I really liked it, my favorite Marvel movie and I have enjoyed every single one to varying degrees. A few criticisms I have read that I agree with though:

- They should just retcon Elizabeth Olsen's Russian accent away. It comes and goes within sentences and it is kind of distracting.
- The Vision is tricky because he seemingly is the most powerful of the group so when he pops up after four minutes in a fight scene you can't help but think "wait, what has he been doing?" Setting up Wanda as his power foil was smart but I'm still not sure what he can and can't do.
- They probably need to stop with the Stan Lee cameos. It has gotten really distracting and takes you out of the story.
- I also think they should quit mentioning the characters that aren't in the movie. I wouldn't have been thinking "where are Thor, Hulk and Pepper?" so much if they weren't referenced. It is tricky but I think it would be best to just ignore them as if every character knows they aren't in the equation.

All minor stuff.

Hard to respond to your criticisms without spoilers. I'll just say the absence of those characters and characters mentioning their absence was important in setting up Tony's place in the movie. I thought it was good especially since we know exactly where Thor and Hulk are.

While I agree that in this particular movie that the absence of Potts, Thor and Hulk are relevant, I absolutely agree that the practice of always having to say "where's character X?" gets old and contributes little to nothing (again, excepting this movie). It's only going to get more unwieldy when in phase 6 Squirrel Girl is going to need 20 minutes to run down the list of everyone that's been in a movie to explain their whereabouts for her big fight with Doctor Doom.

Character motivations I think was THE biggest difference between CW and BvS.

Wanda is no doubt the most powerful. She possesses the ultimate power - plot convenience. That's a comic book thing right now, but it'll bleed into the movies when needed.

There's a rumored Easter Egg that, if it's ever confirmed, will be my favorite Easter Egg ever. For now, I'll just say they're gonna get hop-ons.

We do? Was that in the movie? If not, can you send a PM? I saw it last night and loved it.

I was talking about plot points from Thor 3 that have been in the news.

I don't have a problem with the Stan Lee cameos. Given his age there probably won't be too many more of them anyway.

Which is what everybody thought the first few times. It's fine but it's more like "oh yeah that's still a thing" instead of a big applause moment.

I'm seeing a few bits coming out that suggest Warner is making moves to move control of the DC films from Snyder to Affleck. I wouldn't be surprised to see Snyder eventually cut ties with DC and Warner.

He's 93.

Who applauds at a movie?

I did after Spider-Man's first scene. That was just brilliant.

Reports are Affleck was pretty upset with the process of BVS and how it all turned out. They made him Executive Producer of Justice League to help appease him. Hopefully that's part of a power play.

We are in the tiny minority of people that know and care about the brains behind these movies so why would DC not just back the truck up and let Joss Wedon take over the franchise? Affleck has made good movies but they aren't exactly in the style of comics.

Here's a good plan, let Rian Johnson finish Star Wars VIII and say "here are the keys, build us an empire".

Snyder sucks, but I'm also in the minority(?) that thought Batfleck was terrible as well. I had planned to avoid BvS, and I should have done it. DC won't get any more of my money.

CBM: Captain America: Civil War debuts Thursday (no spoilers until Sat)

I still wish I could have seen an Edgar Wright Marvel movie, DC could give him a three movie contract and it would almost certainly be great.

Just got out of Civil War at 7, now I'm watching Midnight Special at 8. Hopefully it's also as good as advertised.

There's got to be somebody on Kevin Feige's team who would defect to take the head job for DC films.

Come back with your thoughts. I loved Midnight Special, Michael Shannon is the best and Joel Edgerton was a badass. Take Shelter is in my top five of the last ten years and Mud and Shotgun Stories are both great so I'm admittedly a Jeff Nichols homer.
