Heads up: Potential government shutdown

Dems only leverage is the budget and they're going to give it up for nothing. Stephen Miller's neo-nazi ass is running shit now.

his loyalty on TV last week or whenever is being rewarded. Welcome to the United States of Apprentice

Moonz isn't really a big fan of the downers.

6 years of CHIP funding.

And swinging the pressure back to the GOP on DACA. Republicans can't escape the blame for the next shutdown.

Remains to be seen if this plays out positively for democrats. I fear it may not. Again trusting the GOP on anything is moronic

I agree with this. Dems loose nothing really, if there is no DACA on Feb 8th, we'll be right back here. The shut down was pretty dumb in the first place since it only bought them one less week of a CR, but it only lasted one business day so no biggie really. Plus the leave one month before the DACA deadline in early March instead of 3 weeks under the previous house proposal.

They don't have to trust them, the Dems have the power to shut the whole damn thing down again in three weeks unless they are satisfied with the DACA solution.

Headline on CNN website: "Senate reaches compromise to avoid shutdown"

Headline on MSNBC website: "Senator Flake explains behind-the-scenes deal made to end shutdown"

Headline on Fox News website: "Team Schumer caves on filibuster; paving way for end to government shutdown"

Lolz.

The same CNN poll that says 36% don't believe shutting down the government over DACA is worth it also shows that 84% of Americans approve of DACA, and want a favorable solution, so I'm not so sure it will be a GOP win if the government shuts down again in a few weeks over this. If McConnell gave Schumer a promise that DACA would be discussed soon and then he backs off, it's not going to be a good look for McConnell and Senate Republicans, imo. The GOP's problem is that their Trumpite base doesn't want a DACA solution, they want all these kids deported, but given how popular the program is overall (even among many urban and suburban Republicans) opposing DACA is probably not a winning issue for them in the long run, imo.

Yep, this is a good post. Opposing DACA is not only a morally wrong and intellectually ignorant stance it is a losing stance long term. Steadfast positions like these by the GOP is going to turn educated suburban and urban Republicans away from the party, and the GOP is not sustainable on the Trumpet base alone. A temporary win for the Republicans in 16' is going to turn into a major setback for the long term.

Does the GOP have even a short term path to anyone other than suburban and urban republicans as is? Donald is fucking the party and the GOP pulled its pants down to aid it.

Schumer Schellout. The Dems caved because they couldn't stand the pressure at the polls going into the November elections and another wave of crushing losses sending their total over 1100 seats since Obama came to office and started the downward spiral. Now DT will get the credit because black unemployment is at an all-time low, women unemployment is at an all-time low as is Hispanic unemployment. People vote their pocketbook. The Dow up over 7000 also since DT took office. Tons of business regulations done away with. DT is crushing it and the media can't stand it!
