Nick Clegg is arguably the worst politician alive. Of course he's in trouble
They have to beg the Germans and French to print those Euros for them, and the price being demanded has absolutely crushed them.
The bigger problem in Greece is that the ruling oligarchs have basically ignored paying taxes and acted as if they were above governance for generations now. Tons of corruption keeping it that way - even under the austerity rules they are basically passing the burden directly on to middle and lower classes. This election is like something out of the 30s - socialist youth basically trying to throw over the oligarchs and break up their system of corruption and abuse.
It will be wild to see how this plays out. Greece is really one of the last "patriarchal" old school oligarch directed European economies. Where this goes after it is busted up is anyone's guess.
Argentina has a huge election on Sunday. The wrong choice could easily lead to an economic situation similar or worse than 2001. There is some optimism that change is bound to take place regardless of which of the three wins, but the question is how quickly and whether they'll survive the nearly unavoidable short term collapse that those changes would cause. Inflation is second to only Venezuela in Latin America, the government still owes a ton to international investors and their currency isn't trusted by anyone.
Scioli will be the closest replacement of Kirchner, though there is at least some hope that he's looking to make changes needed, just at a slower pace than necessary. Macri is a more centrist candidate and mayor of Buenos Aires. And then there's Massa, who was in Kirchner's cabinet before splitting from that party and running on his own platforms. The latter two seem most likely to make the biggest immediate impact, but drastic change isn't really highly thought of in Argentina.
It looks to be a runoff to begin with; Scioli and Macri look to be fairly even and no one can figure out which way Massa's supporters might turn if he is removed from the equation.
Did Kirchner kill the prosecutor guy or not?
Sucks for all Canadians that the Leafs are still garbage and don't have a generational talent.
haha, what led you to include that second part?
In other news, Guatemala has elected a comedian turned politician who as far as I can tell has never held any political position yet he collected 69% of the vote.
