Democratic Candidates for POTUS, 2016 edition

Ah, we have entered the phase in the bkf cycle where he has built up a sufficient population on his blocked poster list where he feels the need to recite why each one is there.
Eventually this will grow to about half the board when he does a reset.

Rinse....repeat.
I'm surprised you aren't on the list given all you do is insult him. But I know you're not as big of a dick as you come across when responding to bkf, so glad you're not on his ignore list. Though you probably will be. And if you step back and think about how you've treated him, you'll admit it'll be deserved.

The fact that it is a symbol of pan-Germanism IS exactly the problem in Austria - which is not and has never been a solely Germanic state (that's why the cornflower was banned in the Hapsburg times). That symbol is extremely explosive in Austria (much moreso than in Germany) for that reason - it's a blatant symbol of xenophobia against any Austrians or residents of Austria which are not of Germanic origin ... a large portion of the population, especially in Vienna and the southern and eastern parts of the country (Burgenland, Kärnten and Steirermark).

An FPÖ parliament member made the news for wearing this sash to a formal event, for example:

Pan-Germanism in Austria (and Switzerland) is an extremely divisive and dangerous thing that pops up from time to time (generally when the economy is crap, as it is now).

But you presented the cornflower as a symbol of anti-Semitism, not Pan Germanism. Now, when your misrepresentation is exposed, you shift to raging about Pan Germanism. You can disagree with Pan Germanism, if you like. (I'm not particularly a fan either.) But then why describe the cornflower as being mostly about anti-Semitism in your original post on the subject. You are constantly being deceptive or ignorant. Then, when you are exposed, you shift.

That flower was the symbol of the "Schönerer" group in the Hapsburg era that were anti-Semitic and pushed for a common German homeland, and then again was the symbol of the DSNAP (the Austrian Nazi party) in the 1930s while it was illegal in the country. So yeah, wearing that symbol now to Parliament? Welcome to the modern European far right. They don't exactly hide who they are or what their goals are. And they aren't "conservative" at all.

I really don't think you can read. I stated it was a symbol of a party who was anti-Semitic and pushed for a common German homeland (aka - pan-Germanic) in the Hapsburg times and then again for the DNSAP. I didn't say the flower was a symbol of anti-semetism at all (anti-semetism isn't a right wing specific issue in Europe, and never has been). It remains to this day a symbol a specific kind of right wing, xenophobic authoritarianism in Austria AND it has a very loaded symbolism (it's basically as close to a swastika as you can get in a country where the swastika is banned ... you cannot ban a flower that naturally grows in the wild).

Seriously, use your damn eyeballs and read.

Had no student debt and now have a seven-figure net worth.

I'm not really so sure that the former is much of an accomplishment for someone that went to school before colleges and universities were systematically fucking America's youth out of their futures. Any self-made man like yourself would nowadays have some debt accrued from college training and expenses.

I don't know shit about cornflowers, but one could also say that the swastika "has been a symbol going back to ancient whatever" and has "strictly speaking" nothing to do with anti-Semitism. There are certain symbols that have become so tainted that using them is a definite dogwhistle to like-minded racists. The swastika is one, the Confederate flag is another. Don't know if the cornflower is one or not, but if it's a symbol of "pan-Germanism" I would not be surprised.

You could say that about the swastika but then you would be dealing in half truths like vad. The swastika was an ancient symbol for various things mostly in India, but not much in Europe. At the same time the corn flower was a widely accepted symbol in Europe for various things having nothing to do with anti-Semetism. In a European context the swastika represents the anti-Semitism of the National Socialists, while the cornflower does not.

THE FLOWER ISN'T A SYMBOL OF ANTI-SEMETISM AND NOBODY SAID SO. (and neither particularly is the swastika, though anti-Semetic groups in modern years have used it as such from time to time - there was a hell of lot more to Naziism than just hating Jews)

It was used in the 19th century in Austria by a pan-Germanic party that was also strongly anti-semetic and one of the precursors to the nazis. It was later used as a symbol by the then outlawed Nazi party in Austria in the 1930s (when the Austrian government of the time was trying to stay separate from Germany).

It is a symbol of right wing, authoritarian, Germanic nationalism in Austria and Switzerland in particular. Many of those parties have also happened to be anti-Semetic in the past, but that is not the defining characteristic here.

My four years at Wake cost about what you'd pay to get to frosh Thanksgiving today.

I don't mind being insulted occasionally, as long as reply also includes a response to some of the points I was making in the post which was the reason for the response. Chris & I disagree on many things, but at least his replies include conversation related to the issues being discussed. Those other four guys reply for no other reason than to make a personal insult. So there is nothing to be gained from reading those replies.

It's a little millennial and PC/safe-spacish to be so sensitive about minor, anonymous message-board insults that you feel the need to protected from them by blocking posters.

All he ever does is personally insult me...and I don't even know the guy. Don't know how old he is, where he lives, what he does, etc. Don't remember ever personally insulting him.

1) completely not true. We have exchanged pms and discussed people we know in common. And you haven't insulted me, but you have insulted both my kids and my profession.

A lot of the Hillbots are very sensitive about any criticism of their candidate- they take it as a personal insult. The people who do nothing but attack are generally the biggest Hillary supporters.

I'm hardly a big Clinton supporter. She's the tallest midget out of the fuckos running for president this year, but otherwise I wouldn't vote for her. I haven't given her any money, nor have I volunteered (both things I did for other candidates I support). And the fact that you have your weird proclivities in this election with respect to Sanders/Trump is all on you.

Read my post just above yours again. I bolded the key part to make it easier for you to understand it. If you still don't understand my point, I will try to explain it again.....though I thought that post made it pretty clear.

Oh, Bob, don't ever change.

I can't think of a single "Hillbot" on these boards, ChrisL is probably the closest thing and he isn't really insulting of anyone. You have a list of Hillbots for us, because im curious who you think they are?

Who are these mystery Hillbots on the board and in real life? Know lots of people who can't stand her, but will reluctantly vote for her because of the Supreme Court, Trump, and what fuckwads 'Pubs have been over the last eight years. Take potentially three SCJs off the table, sub Powell, Gates, or Daniels for Trump, and rewind the last eight years of legislative insanity from the GOP and HRC would get schlonged. Only one person I know personally is stoked about voting for Hillary, but 'Pub fuck ups have made that a non choice for many. That's not Hillbotism.

I think we could easily raise $5,000,000 on Indiegogo to support an Obama for Supreme Court campaign to convince Hillary to nominate him.

As a disclosure, I have put a downpayment on the DC prozac and lithium concessions if she wins and nominates him.

I found out the other night that I do actually know 1 Hillbot. I was having dinner and playing cards with friends, and 1 friend said her mom had been in town the prior week, and our schedules hadn't worked to get in some cards while she was in town. She told her mom sorry about that, and her mom (who is nice, but both quite opinionated and overly sensitive) said that was probably just as well because she remembered that in 2008 I was no Clinton fan and was going to vote for Obama. I didn't remember any conversations with her mom 8 years ago, and neither did my friend, but we thought it was a bit risible. And she told her mom she was pretty sure I hated Bernie more than Hillary this time around. I asked how big a Hillary fan her mom is, and my friend said a yuge Hillary fan. So I can now say that I know 1 big Hillary fan.

FWIW, my sister, who is a registered Dem, voted for Bernie today in MD because she is voting Trump in the Fall and thinks Bernie will be easier for Trump to take down than Hillary. She doesn't like Hillary or Bernie and is voting for Trump because she believes he's the only 1 who can get things done. Not sure who my other sister voted for today. She's a registered Pub and loved Sleepy, but I have no idea if he's still on the ballot in MD. If not, I'm guessing Cruz or Kasich.

Thought Obama would eventually end up on the SC, but now not so sure. Kinda doubt that O defers to Hillary on Garland if 'Pubs finally sober up. O wants/needs to make some $s and would be at least in his late 50s by the time HRC was in line to appoint him. She'd probably want to go younger than appointing Obama.

Ginsburg will retire shortly after Hillary wins. Kennedy will be 80 in July. It's likely he'll retire soon. Breyer is 77.

Thomas is a zombie. He'll never die.
