Chicago Cubs Thread - Playoff Push Pending

Oof, Javy just swung at a ball over his head. Been looking good at the plate and in the field though.

Man - I really don't get the Strop play, especially after last night. So many other options to go with in a high leverage situation - let strop and his 68 appearances have a rest.

What a terrible way to end this series - why even take out Lester? Such a terrible mismanagement this game.

Cubs lose 4-3. Missed opportunities offensively and a bullpen that could not hold a two run lead. I bet Maddon is kicking himself for his decision to put Strop on the mound. Losses of this nature hurt because they linger and can result in extended losing streaks. Cubs now get the opportunity to avenge a sweep at home against the Phillies. Just do it.

Just when we start to believe the Cardinals bring us back to earth. Sounds about right.

Think that's our division chances gone, but let's chase down the Buccos

It's just one game. There are 24 games to play. Tip of the hat to St. Louis for the demo of why they have the best record in MLB. Arrieta starts tomorrow and gives them an excellent chance to start a new winning streak. That being said all that's left is... I hate the Cards.

Just don't think we can make up 7 1/2 on them. Their sched is cakeish the rest of the way

That last game seemed to shut all of us up for 24 hours. Cubs and Phillies playing an old fashioned doubleheader today. Get two games for the price of one and start the second game 30-45 minutes after the completion of the first game. Such a deal! Just thought...watch the first game go extra innings and this series become something out of a comic book that could only happen in Philly.

Under the heading 'It didn't need to be said', auditions for the post season roster have begun. I don't recall how rosters are set in the post season....before each series? Everyone has 24 games to convince Maddon he is essential to post season success. This should be interesting.

Just a stab - leaving La Stella and Soler off if we make the LDS, and have Edwards beating out Hunter, Cahill, Rosscup and Ramirez. If Soler comes through well in his rehab, probably replace Baez with him.

C - Montero, Ross, Schwarber
1B - Rizzo
2B - Castro, Baez
SS - Russell
3B - Bryant
LF - Coglhan, Denorfia
CF - Fowler
RF - Jackson

SP - Lester, Arrieta, Hammel, Hendricks
RP - Haren, Wood, Richard, Grimm, Edwards, Motte, Strop, Rodney, Rondon

Maddon questions whether Soler can be ready in time given their aren't any live games available until 9/21 in the AFL. Where is Motte in rehab? Basically agree with your personnel. Would not be surprised if Cubs go with twelve pitchers rather than thirteen.

Cubs beat the Phillies 5-1 in the first game of the twin bill. Jake Arrieta pitches 8 innings of one run baseball to earn his 19th win. Fowler, Bryant, Castro and Baez collect two hits each to lead the offense. Addison Russell hit a two RBI double.

Golden sombrero's must motivate Kyle Schwarber. First time it happened he hit a 3 run HR to start the scoring in a victory against San Fransisco. Tonight he hit a solo shot in the first inning and a 2 run HR in the second to give the Cubs a 3-0 lead after 2 innings. Beast.
