Just a word of thanks to a local firefighter that recognized a dangerous situation and possibly saved dozens of lives. Some of you may know him. I'm sure some of you have eaten at this restaurant. This could have turned out very differently.

A big THANK YOU to all first responders who put their lives on the line to protect all of us!

Anybody that has fuel-burning equipment, or burns fireplaces, gas logs, gas hot water heaters, gas furnaces – anything that uses fossil fuels, so to speak, has the chance of having – like this restaurant – a malfunction in the equipment,” said Williams. “The danger is, it truly is a silent killer. You can’t smell it, you can’t tell that it’s there. Unfortunately, you just start having symptoms, and the symptoms are very similar to flu symptoms.”

If you read nothing else from the piece, this is the takeaway. New residential codes require CO detectors, but many older homes built in prior to the 90s do not have them. They're fairly inexpensive an truly can be a lifesaver. Unfortunately, restaurants and businesses currently arent held to the same codes and standards. River Ridge thankfully is taking the initiative to put alarms in their restaurant, hopefully others will follow suit.

Yeah even if not required by code it's silly not to spend $20 on a detector as a business owner.
