Jeff Sessions Recuses Himself From Campaign Investigation; Called Upon To Resign

perjury is extremely hard to convict for

It's a lot easier when somebody tells a bald-faced lie on video.

But that's not the issue here. The issue is that the Republican controlled Congress isn't going to hold this administration accountable. It's not within their political interest to do so. It won't be until 2018, at the earliest, that anything gets done. And even then - it may be a longshot for Dems to retake the House.

Yep numbers will be bob and Doofus will be moonz, hope the Internet still exists then.

And it gets longer by the day. I can't believe you guys are going to lose to Trump twice.

It's nice when moonz troll well has run dry so he needs to find something to fill that lonely hole in his life. Now that Wake bball is good all that's left is some dwarf jokes and trump shilling. If trump goes down watch out numbers and Doofus.

I'd say we start a fund raiser to pay for a mail order bride, but we all know how that one would turn out.

The real new Bob will be numbers. He is going to make a fantastic Republican one day. Can't wait to see it.

This is silly. The Republican party that we a knew is dead. It died in 2010, Romney's 2012 run was a last gasp of reasonableness in the party, and then Trump took a shit on the grave in 2016 by destroying the remnant hold outs from the Party of Regan during the Primaries. Highly possible that numbers and doofus grow more conservative over time, but the Republican party is not conservative anymore.

Prett sure this time it's the crime.

It may be the crime if the private conversations Session had with the Russian Ambassador in Sessions's own fucking office had anything to do with Russian hacking the DNC. Which is why an investigation would make sense, preferably an investigation performed by an independent party (e.g., not Jeff Sessions).

Just a reminder that there are consequences for perjury.

Yes, you have to love irony and hypocrisy. Sessions believed back in the day that perjury was a high crime as it pertained to Bubba.

That said, what are the chances Sessions resigns or is removed? I'm thinking slim. This isn't going to mean a darn thing to the 40% of the country who love Trump and will excuse anything he or a minion of his does. Add to that Trump is still more popular in his party than Paul Ryan is. Or does anyone think I'm being too cynical here?

No, you are spot on. I doubt there are any significant consequences. Even if Sessions does leave the AG office, this will not tarnish Trump in the eyes of his supporters in anyway.

They never do. Then it happens.

JHMD is right, you never know what your trigger will be. One went off the rails seemingly because we had a black president. The other because his candidate didn't win a primary. You just wake up one day and bam, you're Bob2289027482163424.

There's already blood in the water. He flat out lied in the confirmation hearing, potentially about something not insubstantial. Don't think this is just going to magically go away. How much heat does Trump want to take to keep him on? Same issues with Flynn and we see how that turned out.

I believe he used the phrase "in the course of the campaign." It was originally posited as a "what would you do as AG if you found out that anyone associated with the Donald campaign had contact with Russians in the course of the 2016 campaign" and Sessions volunteered himself into it by responding with what MM said above.

What lawyer voluntarily gives up additional information?

A former aide to Sessions tweeted earlier this morning:

"I spent countless hours working on argument for Kagen [sic] to recuse from ACA cases for Sessions. Recusal should be no brainer for him."
