Official Election Month Thread: COUP falls short, nothing to see here

I have way more in common with my Trump voting natural gas company extended family than I do with you. And I'm far closer in socioeconomic status to you than I am to them. I'd prefer the Dems were the party of my formerly union member, not educated, not woke, just want a living wage family members than the party of you and me.

Again you don't know crap about me and don't know the social stratification of the people I regularly hang out with and associate. the fact that you are so assured in your conclusions demonstrates my point.

Board Dems, if Biden wins and Pubs hold the Senate, who would you want to run as Pres in 2024?

A. Biden
B. Harris
C. Whoever shines in the hypothetical Biden Cabinet like Mayor Pete
D. Take a flyer on an up-and-comer

It sucks that Hickenlooper will be 72, because I really think he'd be the best option. In light there of, I'd hope Mayor Pete could separate himself enough during the next 4 years to overtake Harris.

The casual cruelty of Republicans is a feature, not a bug. This is what their voters want.

Just a casual reminder that the GOP sucks and Josh Hawley in particular is the fucking worst. Very much looking forward to him running in 2024 and the media fawning over how he has taken "Trumpism" and made it so palatable without being a sexual assailant and openly racist.

He's gonna take the parts of Trumpism that work without the unforced errors and go hard after Big Tech and China. It could get him the primary.

Maybe Dems should start calling Republicans Nazi fascists who take away your fair share to placate the rich elites and maintain power.

Can you imagine the absolute shock and anger from the media if Dems did that? Despite Pubs being closer to fascism than Dems to socialism and yet Pubs railing about socialism for going on 50 years?

Arizona back on the betting markets. Not a done deal in AZ yet? Looks like NYT reported an error and only 86% is counted, not 98% like previously reported.

depends on what he thinks about abortion

"I was an unintended pregnancy, but my mother agreed to carry me to term and look how that turned out: you all are forgiven of your sins. That could be any fetus."

I know and it's going to work because rubes love nothing more than a young, white, handsome politician who tells them about all the great tax cuts he's going to have even if none of those tax cuts will ever apply to thm.

It's clear the wise, compassionate grandpa approach is lacking.

I thought Tom Cotton would be the guy, but he has the charisma of a mortician and switches to jingoism too quickly.

Hawley thinks he's the modern day Teddy Roosevelt. He's gonna call Big Tech the 21st Century version of robber barons and say he'll trust bust them.

just a guess based on your "owning the left" posts

enjoy comfortable and early retirement

The sad fact is that the Dems are fighting with one hand behind their backs because they are unwilling to bend (or break) the rules, name-call, and lie about their opponents like the Pubs are.

Probably some emotion here, but I'm totally down on policy mattering at all for most voters. Most people just don't care. You can do opinion polls and see what believe in and support from a policy perspective, but I'm not convinced they actually link those beliefs in any way to what a candidate or party actually does.

Does he look like me? Does he seem like he's part of the team I want to be part of because reasons? It's all kind of depressing. Hope I'm wrong and with better policies and/or messaging people will actually care.

People mostly don’t understand policy. Or governing, it seems.

To the extent they think they do, Republicans mostly buy into the disinformation and falsehoods propagated by their leadership.

Yeah, tribalism seems a stronger force.

A VP Harris would waltz to the nomination if Biden steps down. I wouldn't hate it, but I'd rather have someone like Castro running, especially if he gets a cabinet post and does well there (which he would).

RJ suggests you add "E. Stacey Abrams"

For all the negatives of yesterday, Abrams is well positioned to win the GA governor race in 2022.

Hickenlooper is a boring white guy who is past his political prime and has ethics issues. He did a lot of cool stuff in Colorado, and I voted for him in this election, but he would be a terrible presidential candidate.

I feel like Ranger with all these tweets I'm posting

Yeah, I guess I should have said "I align with Hickenlooper the most" rather than "he'd be the best option."
