I Just Got "Stimulated"

Pops, you told us the Dems would never pass a bill until Biden was in the White House. The democrats were just playing politics. Now that you got your check, do you want to acknowledge that you were wrong on your read of the parties, again?
While you are at it, are the current efforts by republicans to overthrow the election still just people humoring him to give him some time to accept the results? Still no harm done, no big deal?

You still in the bosides camp?

Still think the Dems played big time politics, but that's what the dicks in Washington do. But yes I was wrong.
And I am no longer calling myself a Pub due to the total dumpster fuck on how they have handled the post election process.
I am now Deacs(Independent)Pop.

The US Department of Agriculture just stated that the government paid 40% of farmer's income in 2020.

"Thanks to the government paying nearly 40% of their income, U.S. farmers are expected to end 2020 with higher profit than 2019 and the best net income in seven years, the Department of Agriculture said in its latest farm income forecast."

Who says that socialism doesn't work?

The Department of Agriculture set up the loans for half my rural, becoming suburban, subdivision outside metro Atlanta.

Much of the food given away this year at drive up food distributions has been USDA provided food boxes. Usually a chicken, potatoes, apples, eggs, some greens and juice.

Just more evidence that conservatives don't really mind government handouts and welfare as long as it benefits them and isn't called socialism or welfare but some other name.

One of Trump's legacies will be subsidizing farmers for contracts they lost with Chinese companies and their government. Many of the contracts are long-term and have gone to Brazilian, Canadian and other providers.

It’s not just conservatives. I’d say confidently that most voters political preferences are most strongly based on propaganda & in-group social influence, rather than any personal ideology. The rhetoric around identity and motivation is seemingly far more influential than political outcomes.

Last edited:
step one - tank the farming economy with petulant trade wars.
step two - government steps in with non-socialist and very patriotic subsidies.
step three - farmer make more profits
step four - the pandemic wipes out jobs at unprecedented levels
step five - librul socialist communist loving dems ask for increased help for those out of work.
step six - NOOOOOOOOOO we can't encourage people to not work. they should not make more money from the government that they would have made on their own. it just disincentives hard work!

Yep.

That's a start. Now start reading multiple credible news cites and you'll see how crazy the GOP really is.

Cool. Why is he a Democrat still?

There are Republicans who will vote with the $2000 check.

I doubt it. They were paying lip service to it to help the GA race but they secretly knew Mitch would never bring it to a vote.

They will find their deficit hawk spines starting now.

It will be interesting to watch Hawley refuse to support it (if that is what he does). He brought the bill up earlier.

I think there are a few who want this for 2022 or 2024. It's not about whether they believe in it. The vote could be about self-preservation.

Given that Manchin comes from one of the poorest states in the Union, I think it would be politically foolish for him to seriously oppose this. It will only hurt him politically, just as the failure of the Senate GOP to approve higher stimulus checks likely hurt Loeffler and Perdue in the election in the more prosperous state of Georgia.

If nothing else I suppose it will be nice to see trumpublicans being forced to go on the record now that there will actually be bills getting voted on.

I wonder if Manchin is using this to try to get more power or a specific committee leadership. It wouldn't be the first time a senator did it.

Joe Manchin's legislative support will be critical for any partisan political policy for the next 2 years.

It will be interesting to watch Hawley refuse to support it (if that is what he does). He brought the bill up earlier.

If Hawley manages to avoid the political guillotine, he's got to remain consistent and support the checks. He probably won't be the deciding vote though.
