Our chances of hiring Gattis have probably soured. Wake passed on him as a G.A. and hired Joe Tereshinski from UGA instead. Gattis had to get a job at Carolina. Now he is WRs coach for Vandy. Doubt he would come if offered, but he has taken the high road.

Talk about mixed feelings. Saturday night he's watching the team he coaches winning their 8th game of the season, which is huge for Vandy, but he's also watching the school he played at and won an almost unthinkable ACC title at quitting and getting embarrassed.

Ironically I think that's one position, when Bud is healthy, we do have talent on par with Phonz right now. A healthy Bud and KJ at the corners is awfully good. The big difference in talent to me on defense between Phonz's teams and this team is the front seven. Even with Nikita, this front seven isn't even close to the front seven during 2006-2008.
 
Phonz said coming back to coach was his dream job

What are you talking about? Bud cost us two games this season! No more bud in 2013!
 
Bud had his sophomore slump just like Phonze did or have we forgotten?

Agreed. And what sometimes goes unnoticed is how much the DL helps the secondary and vice versa. Phonz benefited from Boo, who benefited from curry, who benefited from gattis and so
 
Big.difference in the two slumps. Phonz finished that year strong and set the stage for the rest of his career (pick or two at FSU, two picks at Maryland, damn near blocked two punts in the Orange Bowl which still haunt me - he actually overran one punt block, oh what could have been)

Bud was banged up all year and as was pointed out, many were ready for no more Phonz after his soph season as well.

Gattis was so freaking money. He had picks in like 5 straight games during that magical season that seems so long ago.
