The Master was robbed.

Biggest upset is the snub of Bigelow

Agreed, that is really weird, especially given she's won previously and apparently Zero Dark Thirty is perhaps the best picture.

How did Les Miserables get nominated for best picture? Maybe best musical that shouldn't have been made.

Wreck-it-Ralph better win the animation category. Other movies weren't even close.

Was Christoph Waltz only a supporting role in Django???

No. Django really got screwed not be acting nominations IMO.

Waltz and DiCaprio were great. Jamie Foxx was pretty damned good.

Other than the curious Best Director category, I don't have a ton of beefs with these nominations. They could have nominated another film for Best Picture, and I would have loved to have seen Moonrise Kingdom in that slot, but it's up for Best Screenplay.

Ugh yeah what's up with the best director category, so many snubs. Woof.

Achievement in Directing
"Silver Linings Playbook" David O. Russell

i can't help but to think of this behind-the-scenes clip from i heart huckabees when i see russell's name (warning: extreme cursing)...he just goes berserk on lily tomlin.

I have Beasts of the Southern Wild at home on Netflix. Hoping to check out Zero Dark Thirty this weekend. I used to make an effort to see all the Best Picture nominees, but I'm not really jonesing to see Life of Pi, Les Miserables, or Amour (which I hear is good, but very sad).

Predictions:

Best Picture - Les Mis
Actor - DDL
Actress - Jennifer Lawrence
Supporting Actor - TLJ
Supporting Actress - Anne Hathaway
Director - Spielberg (maybe Russell)
Animated - Frankenweenie
Adapted Screenplay - Kushner/Lincoln (maybe Russell/SLP again)
Original Screenplay - Tarantino/Djano
Song - Skyfall, Adele
Foreign - Amour

I don't really care about the other categories.

Seeing Zero Dark Thirty this weekend. Only other Oscar-nominated films I've seen so far are Argo, Life of Pi, and Lincoln. Pi is my favorite of the three. Really liked Argo, hated Lincoln.

The only reason Sally Field was nominated for Lincoln is because she's Sally Field.

Heard an argument that Dark Knight Rises could have been nominated for Best Picture. Not sure I agree, but it would make up for when Dark Knight was screwed out of a nomination a few years back. Sort of like when the final Lord of the Rings film won (which I disagreed with, but whatever).

I'm assuming Lincoln is the new Best Picture favorite, given the snubs of Bigelow, Hooper, and Affleck. Before, I would have said Zero Dark Thirty was the Best Picture favorite (based solely on the buzz, since it hasn't even released wide yet), followed by Les Miserables, with Argo and Lincoln behind them, so this Best Director thing really shakes that up.

I'm surprised Affleck didn't get nominated for directing.

To me the two biggest locks are Tommy Lee Jones and Searching For Sugarman.

Rian Johnson got screwed. No Best Original Screenplay or Best Director nom? What's up with that?
