Since there are a lot of techies and internet denizens here. I have a poll for your consideration regarding website design.

Would you rather have a landing page with navigation buttons with drop downs telling you what else is on each page or a slideshow where you can preview it from the landing page.

Rj is now in charge of obamacare.

For me it's drop downs. Don't make someone wait for a slide show or they will leave your site.

Preferably some old midi file if possible. Maybe the circus tune.

slideshows are awful. out of principle I do not clickthrough any especially when it's a list of something like "Top 10 Best _____"

When you say slideshow I'm assuming you're talking about a slider? Why can't you have both? Keep your navigation menu link titles short and simple, and then maybe have a slider with 3-5 slides that link to your most important pages. You can add context or more information to those as needed. It's unimaginative/rote web design, but it's a pattern people are used to at least.

It wouldn't be that. it wold basically be a preview of other pages.

This is more like what I was trying to say. At the top would be traditional buttons. Lower on the page would be a "slider" that shows more details.

not exactly like this but sort of http://www.authortorium.com/

So you're going to create a new website that copies the functionality of a website that already exists?

Good business model.

I'm reminded of that scene in Knocked Up where the characters realize their plans for a website have already been done as MrSkin.com.
