Any suggestions? I have a cheap-o Belkin router at the moment, and it barely covers a 1/2 the house with wi-fi. Our TV has a wired internet connection, so only minimal streaming on the tablet.

Try CNET & Nextag for routers...should provide a good selection with recommendations.

do you have the ability to wire a connection from your original router to the other side of the house? If so, just buy another cheap router and mask it - PM me - so that you essentially 2 routers on the same IP address which will boost your connectability.

how bout a range extender instead? I have the "NETGEAR N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender:" and it seems to be working well. My devices like IPad and phone will connect to whichever network is strongest/available.

Thanks for input. Price point was bicker thought. Just should have put about $50.

Before I bought my range extender I upgraded to one of the newer routers from a very basic one. It helped a little but not nearly as much as I thought it might, which is why I went with the range extender. It may serve your purposes better. just MHO

A good router is important but even the best one is not going to cover a whole house consistently. I recently got an extender and it is a great investment.

Depends how big your house is and how much 2.4 interference there is.

A single router would never penetrate all that maple.

Lmao!

Has anyone else had issues with too many wifi connections to your router? Our house has 5 computers, a printer, the bluray player, a nook, an iPad, 2 iPhones and 2 iPod touches hitting the network all at once. We were having problems about a year ago and upgraded to a dual band router and it cleared up most o the problems.

I don't think my office has that many wireless devices LK. :D

I am not a fan of range extenders. Without the benefit of the wired connection, the range extenders are already only half as good as your router, because they have to use the radio to receive and send back to your router. Much better, if you can, to wire to a farther point in the house, buy a new router and use the old router as an access point.

Range extender is "ok" if you don't mind that anything running through the extender is going to run at about half the speed of connecting directly to your wireless router.

I am working through some similar issues in the new house. We have a shitty residential gateway from TWC. It is causing major issues with my VOIP phone system and all I can figure is that the combo router/modem is a terrible router. I am having intermittent packet loss with it too.

I think I might have to buy a cable modem and a separate router and connect the VOIP phone between the two, then run cable upstairs and use another access point upstairs to get good coverage and a properly working phone.

You've seen my home office...it's nerd-vana.

I forgot to mention there is also a roku and a Wii connected to the WiFi as well.

Someday we are going to find out all this shit is poisoning us slowly.

I've often wondered if constantly being bombarded by radio waves is what will eventually make us all X-Men.
