Welcome Dave Clawson - 430PM Presser (Clawson Wins Presser, OGB Gets E-Boners)

For basis of comparison, those numbers are about even with this year's Wake defense. Both defenses did similar numbers just this year in those categories as well. Good sign.

Wow, good to hear.

I was 16 the last time Wake hired a new football coach.

#1 choice or not, this is exciting, and I can't wait to see how it unfolds. Ready for a young and energetic staff that plays to win.

Welcome to Wake, Coach Clawson. Glad to see that everyone is giving him a chance. I'm not convinced that he wasn't the first choice, but we may never know. The guy has recruited Florida well from Bowling Green, and he has finished 1st in his conference at 3 schools. This is a good hire.

Ditto (except I was a lot older than 16 when the last coach came.)

I'm pretty much OK with this. My problem with Lembo is that his teams surrender almost as many points as they score.
Doesn't appear to be the case with Clawson's teams.

I'm not in a place to look it up, but I recall researching last week and seeing their defense gave up very similar points to Wake this past season despite being in the offense happy MAC. They have up yards, but not a lot of points.

WE'LL GET YOU NEXT TIME, DUKE! NEXT TIME!

Clawson went to Williams, his DC went to Penn and the next guy listed on the BGSU coaching staff has degrees from Dartmouth and Columbia.

Private schools. Nice. We'll have to keep our eye out for the Penn guy. Could be some filthiness there.

Ok, I had a chance to look up the Ball State numbers for this season at least.

Scoring Defense: 24.8 (Wake: 14.1)
Scoring Offense: 40.1 (Wake: 18.3)
Net: +15.3 (Wake: +4.2)

I'll also include the Clawson's Bowling Green for comparison's sake:

Scoring Defense: 14.8!!
Scoring Offense: 35.4
Net: +20.6

Seeing as Lembo has a much better winning record, I would assume these numbers favor him over his career. I'm not making an argument for/against Clawson, who I'm pretty satisfied with, but there's no need to make up stuff about Lembo to make Clawson seem better.

Clawson may turn out to be great, and I hope he does, but this snippet from page one is very interesting:

Wake Forest fb job just opened. Pains me to say this, but @Pete_Lembo is absolutely perfect for that job. He's gone (in my opinion).

@Pete_Lembo recruits the southeast tremndously, knows the HS fb coaches well in NC and is academically-suited to coach at a private univ ...

There is not a more perfect fit than @Pete_Lembo and Wake Forest.

@Pete_Lembo and @BCCoachStevens are the best coaches I've ever seen. Wake Forest will win 8-9 games every year under Lembo.

If Wake Forest doesn't hire - not just intvw, but hire - @Pete_Lembo, somebody there needs a lobotomy.

It appears Ron agreed but managed to screw up the hire. Either that or Lembo told him he doesn't like Bzzzz.

Eh, not worth being concerned about, IMO.

Lembo, Clawson, and Nard were identified as top-3 pretty quickly and most agreed that any of them would be good hires in a vacuum. I'm not going to let the contrast between any of the three get me down about the hire.

Clawson is an A+ hire. His resume is much better than we usually do in hiring football coaches.

You did good, Ron, you did good.
