Wake rejects CBI bid

Big FU to salaried staff that needs to work advance ticketing and gameday. Like going to a shitty bowl over christmas.
 
We lose to an average Pitt team by 29 and we pay to play more games in the CBI? Shut the program down. Send the current team off to various Southern Conference teams and lets bring back the swim team.

NIT is like going to a shitty bowl.

This is like not getting invited to a bowl and deciding to scrimmage UNCG's football team on New Years Day and calling it the Triad Bowl.
 
Who is going to pay money to see this team play again?

I've just realized. You know how many of us have often been cheering this year hoping we'd lose games so Wellman couldn't justify keeping [Redacted]? I'm pretty sure when Dino was coach, Wellman would be cheering for us to lose games so he could justify firing Dino.

No one, especially against a team from the MEAC. Shelling out at least $25k per game all but guarantees Wake will lose money if they participate.
 
How much would they charge for tickets, ~$10? Maybe 1500 people show up using the AD's math.
 
Game's going on during the NCCAT, we're playing an MEAC team, 99.99% of the fan base wants the coach fired. I'm not sure this game would draw 1000 people.

Gaudio's postseason comments indicated that the Demon Deacons were ready to play more basketball, and that any time on the court would be valuable.
However, Wake athletic director Ron Wellman already had ruled out the CBI, even before the Deacons knew whether they would receive an NIT bid.
The CBI, in its first year, had some question marks, such as how much it would pay for travel and how much school would be missed, especially with its best-two-of-three championship round.

There also seemed to be some questions about how much the NCAA and ACC wanted to support the new tournament, whose success could pull teams from the NCAA-owned NIT in future seasons. Wellman always has minded his manners carefully in those situations.

In the end, Virginia played in the CBI, leaving the Deacons as the only ACC team with a .500 or better overall record not playing in the postseason.

Considering we barely drew 5000 to ACC games, who the hell is going to show up to watch us play an exhibition game against Hampton when everybody just wants Bzzz gone? What a fucking joke. What is our justification for doing this other than Wellman's ego?

I honestly cannot fathom why he would do it... But he would be the one giving the final approval (after firmly rejecting it when Dino was here).
