Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

I have to keep the faith.

If it's between Manning and Turner or White or someone we don't know, I'd take Manning. To be honest with you, I'd take Manning over Howland.

I just don't want to give up yet. If Manning would say yes today, he'll say yes in ten days after we go balls to the walls on Shaka, Marshall and Archie. None are fully off the table yet.

If I were guessing, Archie is making a littler over $1M at Dayton. If we offered $2.5M for eight years, I'd be shocked if he said no.

Welcome to the dark side. This is where I was three weeks ago, now I'm all HowlIN!!

My one concern is whether Howland still has that fire in his belly. In all our months of talking about him, I still haven't seen anyone post something that says he does.
 
offering archie miller a bigger contract than buzz williams got would be beyond stupid

If Marshall isn't on the table, Howland is my second option behind Shaka. He's obviously a good hire.

No guarantee Wojo will be very good. Hell, he wasn't even a good basketball player. Worst Duke team in last 30 years featured him as PG.

Time will tell.
 
So Wojo and Chrissy Collins will be battling it our for midwest recruits
 
3 years from now we are going to be wanting to fire Danny Manning, hoping we can bring in Wojo.

chris collins had a very promising first year at northwestern. he's also recruited at an unheard of level for northwestern.

i bet wojo also has success.

Maybe what happened is schools did their due diligence on him and had the same staffing and recruiting concerns about him. And when they interviewed/talked to him, those concerns weren't alleviated. At this point, I'd be fine with Howland if you believe you and he can put together a good staff that will help him recruit at the necessary level to compete.

But my main question is why the hell haven't we offered Miller $2-2.5mil per?!?!? If you can't get Smart or Marshall, he's clearly the next best choice, and I can't believe he and Morgan wouldn't jump at a good salary at an ACC school in NC.

I agree. I don't think we need to rush to hire Danny Manning. Our absolute best case scenario is that he's good enough to leave us in 3-5 years for Kansas if something happens to Self. I have no desire to settle for someone who will use us a stepping stone. I'd rather have Mack

I doubt he makes that much. The extension was agreed to prior to him make the Elite Eight.
