Oh please, White is a better candidate. Really hard to argue otherwise, unless you just really take that much stock in one game.

That's why I qualified that part. I was cobbling together names that were coming to me in the last day and it reads just like the wish list that's been posted here on the boards, so I wouldn't put it beyond people to be recycling what they see here or for the AD to leak such a list to appease people.
 
I don't think we were actually turned down by Amaker or Howland. I do believe we were turned down by Miller. I think Amaker kind of said thanks but no thanks early on, and I have no idea if we had any interest in Howland, heard conflicting reports on that. Wellman was never going to hire Howland and I think we all kind of knew that.
 
At this point, it'll be embarrassing if Manning decides to stay at Tulsa. It's happened before where a plane is sitting on the runway and a coach changes his mind.
 
Welcome to the Wake family Danny! It's time to get behind the coach and team again and bring us back to where we need to be. I think Danny is the kind of coach who can reel in Harry Giles. Danny was a #1 NBA draft pick, so they potentially have that in common in a few years. Either way, there's no reason not to be excited about this hire.
 
With the Marquette vacancy filled, the most prominent remaining opening is at Wake Forest. Yesterday, the school met with Tulsa coach Danny Manning to discuss the opening. Even without Manning’s background in the state of North Carolina, this would be a tremendous hire for Wake Forest and the position is certainly a step-up for Manning assuming that he is confident that he can make the team a winner in the ACC, which would be much harder to do than build a consistent winner at Tulsa. Given the difficulty of winning at Wake Forest and Manning’s name recognition, the smart move would probably be to parlay Wake Forest’s interest into a better contract at Tulsa and then try to move on to a much bigger job when Tulsa makes a NCAA Tournament run.

BC Interruption made it sound like Amaker's wife has a sick job at Harvard and she didn't want to leave Boston.
 
The top tier names mentioned were never really real, given the restrictions that Wellman and his protectors (one in particular) put upon a new coach. Being inflexible around their Hoosier 'seque view of the world eliminated most candidates quickly. It is plus or minus four years before a true top tier national program can be built with a premier name.
 
I wonder if Manning will be asked to retain the assistants.

I'm sorry love the positivity but we'd need a miracle to pull this off. My caveat being my hopes might be higher if he is well known to have a special place in his heart for Wake Forest.
