BBall Recruiting Megathread - Crawford, Moore, & Collins ALL TO WAKE!

Hudson is listed at 6'6" by all recent accounts.

We'll be above .500 next season and I'll say we'll have 2-3 additional roster spots open at season's end. And this will either work out or not, either way it's not a negative for practice and doesn't matter in the long run.

There are not really any recent reliable accounts. There is as much on the internet that refers to him as a skinny 6'5 than a skinny 6'6, and I'll believe that he's over 6'3 when I see it.

Think about this - If the kid was 6'6, a great shooter, and had a good basketball IQ, then he would be in the Top-100 in the class of 2014. The kid has bloodlines, he played in a region that gets solid exposure, dude hyped himself as an LSU commit, and he has re-classed so somebody should have noticed him if he was any good.

I don't care how many schollies we have - I'd rather us use them on good players, graduate transfers, and transfers, then waste them on bad players who we'll either run off or keep around on the bench four years.

This is ACC basketball.

We likely will have open scholarships after next season. However, we can't offer scholarships and sign players until those scholarships are available, which means recruits can't sign with us until mid-March at the earliest. Almost all of the top recruits have signed by then. That is the problem here in my opinion.

Bingo, and even if we do (which we can), then imagine the possibilities for negative recruiting.

Know who else is 6'6? One Michael Jeffrey Jordan.

We can offer scholarships whenever we want.

2015 and 2016 are obviously going to be telling recruiting years. Get 1-2 top 100ish players for next year and then go for the HR in 2016. Judging DM by trying to do whatever he can with a shit situation in year 1 is ridiculous in my opinion. Let him coach a game first.

This. Manning's recruiting prowess should be defined by how well he recruits the classes of 2015 and 2016, not whatever he does to put a team together for the 2013-2014 season.

We desperately need a small forward who can score. GMc has't played in a year and has had 2 ACL repairs so who knows what we will get out of him.

It's unrealistic to think we'll be above .500. Out team had trouble scoring. We lost three of our Top 6 scorers. We lost our two best high volume three point shooters. We lost our two best FT shooters ( 3 of our Top 4 leaving our returning FT% at 60.2%). We lost our #2 and #3 rebounders.

It's likely Codi's numbers will be better and Devin's will stay the same or decrease. It has nothing to do with Devin's work ethic or talent. It's about the opposition packing the lane, focusing on him much more and giving him dramatically less room in which to operate. Cav will likely have a better year.

Granted we have a huge improvement in coaching and attitude. However the ACC is stronger. We pulled a couple of major upsets. It's totally unrealistic to think we have a shot at either Duke or UNC this year. This means we have to get two more wins just to stay the same.

If we have the same record as last year, Manning has had a really, really good season as coach. If we win more than last year, Danny should be in the running for COY.

While you guys are busy playing chess, Manning is trying to put together a better team from the git go. He probably realizes that losing is bad for business and will hurt recruiting worse than some of the more high minded reasons discussed earlier.

Ummm?

Michael Crabtree ‏@KingCrab15
LODB @CRAB_2x Shout out to my baby bro!! Going to Wake Forest this year!! Time to ball..

Does this mean what I'm assuming it means?

Well...technically he doesn't mention basketball...so...maybe we have a new WR on our hands :D

13-14 is over.

By signing a player that uses a four year scholarship starting this fall, he will only have one scholarship for 2015. If he signs anyone now, he can kiss a better player good-bye for 2015.

No one will transfer before the fall signing period is over. Thus we totally lose the scholarship for that period. It's also likely we won't know if anyone is leaving before the Spring signing period.

We are involved with many of the Top 20 SGs. We can kiss them good-bye for 2015 if we add anyone now.

If we think we can get a Top 100 guy in 2015, we'd be total morons to give up the scholarship now. If we don't think we can get a Top 100, then we hired the wrong coach.

It's just that simple.

No offense to Niners fans, but I wouldn't consider Michael Crabtree a reputable source on this subject.

rj is correct here. Giving a late scholarship to a player that isn't expected to contribute much over his four years would hurt us more in the long-run than saving the scholarship for a season and being able to take more fall signees that will be higher-impact.

My thoughts:

Hudson looks better than Overton and Watson from the limited tape there is on the internet. Form is solid (a small flying elbow, but release is good, and footwork is excellent for the most part). Gets into his shot well with good elevation. D1 level body control around the basket. Very limited athletically, but makes up for it with his control. You can see it in his first step. He isn't all that quick, and can't really jump at all (seems to barely be able to dunk on breakaways), but he gets past his man with his first step because he he understands that dribble drive effectiveness is more about deception than flat out speed.

I kind of like him, but in reality while an upgrade over Ovaltine and Rondale, he isn't a significant upgrade. Offering him a scholarship while a small short term upgrade would actually hurt us more in the longterm. The only way it wouldn't is if his signing pushes out one of our SGs out the door and we use that schollie on 2016. Obviously by the point a player transfers all the really good 2015 will be long gone. Anyway - just my thoughts. I am not sure why he is ranked so low. Seems to have a pretty solid game to me. Perhaps his lack of athleticism is more apparent when watching true game film.

Antoine Mason to Auburn over Providence.
