The Leftovers on HBO

It does seem like they are just pulling a LOST and trying to make a show to make people talk without actually ever getting anywhere

I really hope not, but I guess we'll see. I'll keep watching it for now. It definitely has its moments.

I would say the only thing they are really talking about without going anywhere is Wayne and the Asian. The rest of the plots seem to be progressing.

Fair enough...I guess the fact that we already know there won't be a reason for the departure kinda slants my view on the show.

The departure isn't the interesting part of the show. The way different members of society reacted to the departure is the interesting part. It doesn't matter why the departure happened, because that's not what the show is about. That's why it's not called "The Departure," it's called "The Leftovers."

Yes, everytime they show them I stop paying attention. I think its because the asian chick is neither a good actress nor attractive.

Umm...duh?

I didn't say I didn't understand the premise of the show, just that with all of the characters focused on the WHY, it's not a big leap to expect an eventual answer.

The only aspect of this show that I find interesting is why the fuck anyone is still watching it.

Did you watch the first 3 episodes?

I think its the best thing on TV this summer, by far.

I watched 3 1/2 episodes before turning it off. Unless the police chief's daughters had a lesbian scene in the last 30 minutes of #4, I'm done

This is a very polarizing show, people love it or hate it.

I don't think even a majority of the characters are focused on the "why." Maybe Matt the preacher, but that's about it.

the last episode (i believe, with the baby Jesus) was not good at all.

I think the point is some of us think that's a stupid premise/theme and have thus refrained from watching the show.

And that's a fine position to take. I was responding to the position of "This show has potential, but if they never tell us WHY the people left then it SUCKS and I HATE IT"

I thought the same, ended up watching and now I'm hooked.

To each his own, would love to know what you guys who don't like it watch on a regular basis.

i don't love it or hate it...i haven't made up my mind yet. the last episode did not help it's cause. they need to move away from the high school kids, it is boring BS shock entertainment and the characters don't come across as "real". they need to work on the plot and get it moving a little faster...give us something to hold on to.

I am enjoying the show so far, but I tend to enjoy shows and movies that others find plodding. I don't mind when things move at a deliberate pace.

I usually do too. I just think this show stinks of Lost, as in it's just being weird to try to seem deep, when in reality the writers have no idea where they are going with it, or why.

I want to like this show, but god damn is it depressing. It's three years after the disappearance and everyone is still walking around in a trance. Most people seem to have become nihilists.

Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.
