.WASHINGTON (AP) — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner (GYT'-nur) says many Americans will face hard times for a long time to come.

He says President Barack Obama rescued the United States from a second Great Depression and will keep working to strengthen the economy. But Geithner says will be some time before many people feel like the country is recovering.

Geithner tells NBC's "Meet the Press" that it's a very tough economy. He says that for a lot of people "it's going to feel very hard, harder than anything they've experienced in their lifetime now, for a long time to come."

Sorry, Timmy... that just ain't going to cut it in 2012. When people are hurting you aren't going to get away with "well, it could be so much worse." We've been hearing that for a year now. And whatever you've been doing isn't working. So, its about time to try something different.

Many Americans have been facing hard times for awhile now.

he looked pretty wide eyed trying to explain away the facts this morning. Sort of felt bad for him.

Geithner is in over his head. Maybe anybody would be in his position, but he looks like a deer in headlights or like he's a kid in time out when I see him.

He is saving his old friends and waiting on the private sector job he will receive because of it.

Who? Geithner or pretty much anybody else in the Executive or Legislative branches of our federal government?

All of them. He just has more of an ability to affect the situation.

Geithner has done as good a job as anybody could ask of him. Only Congress can control fiscal policy, and they've shown time and time again how irresponsible they are.

The Fed isn't a government agency.

The Fed controls monetary policy. Congress controls fiscal policy. Geithner is the Treasury Secretary, but he can't make Congress or the Fed do anything.

He's not gonna be around in 2012.

They control printing money, not fiscal policy. And no one outside of a few people can make the Fed do anything they don't want to.

Who are you talking about, the Fed, or Congress?
