Official 2014-15 Charlotte Hornets Thread

The May pick killed it for me. Could not bring myself to really care about the team after that. Okafor was a defensible pick and so was Felton initially (before I knew about the possible trade up).

I was pretty excited about Stephenson last year. Actually considered sharing some season tickets with some friends but sheesh, that fucking exploded. Now we get frank the tank and hope he doesn't go Adam Morrison on us. For fucks sake.

Hornets actually made 2 decent picks in a row with zeller and vonleh. I wouldn't have argued going Noel over zeller in 2013, but with biz on the roster, figured they were looking for more offense. Now it makes no sense. Biz isn't great but has really good defensive stats and has gotten better every year and then of course, they give up on him. Also vonleh was a good pick but for whatever reason they're in "win now" mode and decided not to wait for him to develop (a year after drafting him). It's not an exaggeration to say Cho and MJ don't have a clue.

He's officially 22, will be 23 next season

Seriously? What the fuck? He is about 7 months older than Kaminsky. Why the fuck would they not resign him, he was their best post defender by a wide, wide margin. Yet Spencer fucking Hawes is on the roster? This makes absolutely zero sense. You know he'll end up with the Clippers to replace DJ and just tear shit up.

ETA: Goddamn it, this just gets me more and more pissed off. Why the hell would you use a top-10 pick to draft an 18 year old kid from Africa with minimal basketball experience, based solely on potential, and then not resign him when he was 22 and actually starting to be decent? You knew he would be a project, that you would be his college, and that he was a long-term pick ... but then you dump him after you get through the known growth period? They just used a top-10 pick to do someone else's development for them. Holy shit, this amazingly is actually up there with their worst moves ever. At least with Vonleh they can claim ignorance or that they saw something in practice that they didn't like ... with Biz everyone saw his growth over the past few years.

Yup..... Biz jersey shirt is now a throwback of a throwback..... Back when he was #0....

So are we back to calling them the Bobcats?

BRING BACK THE CATS!

What if biz and vonleh both turn out to be awesome and all we have to show for it is Hawes and Frank the tank

The Charlotte Hornets will not make a qualifying offer to guard Jeff Taylor thus making him an unrestricted free agent, a source told Yahoo.

Hornets Summer League roster: http://www.nba.com/hornets/hornets-announce-2015-orlando-pro-summer-league-roster

Includes Aaron Harrison and Aaron Craft.

There are some interesting names on there.

Of the rookies, Alan Williams and Harrison are intriguing. Short of being potentially inexpensive contracts, however, I don't see how they fit into the team's alleged "win now" mentality. Harrison actually reminds me a bit of a young Alan Anderson, though.

I don't know how I feel about the rest of the roster, but here are a few players that stand out to me:

Regardless of how everything plays out, Troy Daniels deserves a contract. I like what he brings to the table, especially given Batum/Lamb's questionable perimeter shooting. Kind of Anthony Morrow-lite.

Aaron Craft still is who he is and I'm not sure that he's any worse than Kirk Hinrich at this point. 3rd PG or meh?

Kevin Murphy's size/athleticism suggests versatility that he is still too raw to bank on. Might be worth a spot on the end of the bench to see if he can earn some minutes.

LaQuinton Ross posted good numbers while playing center for a garbage Italian team. Still has size/athleticism/skill that might translate to the NBA and still inconsistent.

This right here. Out of all the terrible moves, this may take the cake.

So are the Hornets just going to sit out free agency? Because clearly, the roster cannot be further upgraded.

Ain't got no monies. We were over the cap last year and don't want to be in the luxury tax again.

I know... with all that talent and we still almost fit under the cap?!?!?! crazy talk!!

Hornets weren't making Day 1 moves with the feeding frenzy currently going on. Hopefully they can snag a few bargain vets now that dozens of cash piles have already changed hands. Would love to see three guys: Belinelli (MLE), CJ Watson (RE), and Biz back on a cheap deal (but I doubt he'd take one here now; guys that don't get QOs really resign with the team that didn't value them to that extent).

God I hate the Hawes trade. Hawes is total garbage, we drafted Frank who's going to be a much better version of him, and I knew when it happened that it would cost the team Biz. Yet how do you not keep Biz at ~4M in this market? Who is going to protect the rim? You can't go to war with zero + defensive big men on the roster. Lance obviously had to go, but that was a bad trade, and doubly so with draft hindsight. Unless Batum and MKG can cut off the driving lanes, it's going to be a dunk line at the rim, regardless of how many threes the Hornets hit on the other end.

Tank finished with 19 and 12 in his summer league debut today. Shot 4 for 8 from 3.

Biz took a 2 year deal at $3 million per from Toronto. Don't have a clue why we didn't retain him.
