Wake Football Summer Thread

The most interesting item in that article is that Josh Okonye was the other 1st team corner across from Watson. It makes sense that Gaulden wouldn't start out with the 1st team. He just arrived on campus. But Okonye - who moved to CB from S this spring because Wake was undermanned - is apparently already ahead of Dillon and Davis.

If Gaulden can become a reliable option at that spot it would be huge.

Also Dan mentioned Amari Henderson but omitted Dionte Austin. I wonder why.

Size would be my guess. I would think Austin would benefit from a year to put on weight.

QB work-out videos from this a.m. are up on DI. Brief but nice to see 3 legit kids working.

I am reasonably certain that he landed at Itawamba Community College

Mississippi Juco. Where subpar students go to get eligible (I don't know anything about Autry, but MsJucos are notoriously easy to graduate from).

Will Smith is no longer listed on the roster posted on the website. Could be an accidental omission. We'll see. If he left the team it would create serious depth issues. I'm really hoping that both true freshmen OTs can redshirt.

ETA: we have seen guys mistakenly omitted before. It wouldn't be the first time.

Someone just told TITSWF on Twitter that he has transferred to Liberty. Not sure how valid the statement is.

So let's play that out. Assume that Ty Hayworth starts while Ryan Anderson is suspended. I think Dylan Intemann would kick outside from RG to RT if Herron is injured. That leaves A'Lique Terry and rFR Patrick Osterhage as the backups in the event of an injury at RT, RG, C or LG.

Backup at LT becomes a complete unknown.

We would be very thin on the OL.

Well that's sucks.

You would have thought that that would have been announced around the same time as the suspensions.

That stinks. He is one guy that you hate to see go because he was always very positive and very "Wake Forest" on Twitter, always tweeting positive things about MSD and stuff like that. Seems like he would have been a good guy to have in the locker room, let alone playing.

Also hearing Adam Centers may be hurt and potentially out for the year? Something about a weight room leg injury. Anyone have any scoop? Thought he did a good job as the kickoff guy last year and giving up field position is huge.

Considering Will Smith is following coaches from Stony Brook & JMU on twitter recently...

Wake Football Summer Thread - A departure?

Didn't he get jumped on the depth chart by players a year and two younger than him.

It kind of makes sense.

Yeah. The timing sucks, but I can't get too worried about attrition among players who shouldn't see the field anyway.

Amazing how poor our OL recruiting has been the past 4 years or so. Caldwell had his faults, but he did recruit some pretty good OL including ones he handed off to Grobe.

This OL disability started during the last years of the Grobe era and has continued to the present in a vicious cycle. I can't remember a time, through Mackovic, Groh, Dooley and Caldwell where we've been in such an OL bind like this. I fear we'll be weak again on the line this season, and who knows when we'll get to where it's a team strength. The team will not compete in our division as long as this funk continues.

This was our OL recruiting strategy post 2007.

Another Grobe/Lobo OL recruit wasted.

Yeah. My concern is that the guy who left seemed to be a serviceable backup. The ones that probably aren't useable depth guys seem to be sticking around.
