Best concert you've ever seen

Umphrey's Mcgee and Matisyahu at a small outside venue in Kansas City.

Probably NiN in C'ville during the Lights in the Sky Tour of 2008. But Muse at the Electric Factory in Philly, summer of 2006, would be a very very close second.

Old Crow Medicine Show was the best live show I've been to, and truthfully I've always enjoyed myself at DMB concerts.

My first concert ever was The Rolling Stones in Durham (Wally Wade) back in 05 or 06. That totally blew my socks off. I've seen some other shows I really loved but because that was my first show and the scope of the band/performance, I'd have to give that the nod.

Rush in Greensboro in '86 w/ Blue Oyster Cult
Pink Floyd-Dean Dome around '87 whenever they first came back sans Waters

I saw both of these show as well. I'll also add(not good with the years):

The Clash @ Carmichael Auditorium
The Cure @ Cameron Indoor Stadium
Neil Young/Sonic Youth/Social Distortion @ Dean Dome
Fugazi/Shudder To Think @ The Miracle House in Greensboro
Ramones @ Baity's
The National @ Raleigh Memorial Auditorium
Wilco @ Durham Performing Arts Center

and way too many awesome club shows to list.

Trey Anastasio opened? WakeTheUniverse and I were there. Great time.

This show definitely makes my list, but in no way represents seeing a band in their prime. Same goes for seeing Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Junior Brown, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers Band (sans a few), The Dead (sans Jerry), and so many others that I've been so fortunate to see in the past five years or so. I recognize that I missed the boat on the era in which these bands were at their most powerful, but feel grateful to see them in any capacity.

Bands I've seen that have been atop their game include Perpetual Groove, Phish (about five years past their prime) and Widespread Panic (ditto).

However, my favorite live show is still Radiohead. Their sound translates very well live, and seeing the debut of Bodysnatchers and a There There opener with Thom alone against a white sheet background in a crowd of 80k has to be the tops.

I'm with srbouch, there is hardly a better way to spend your extra $ than seeing live music.

That Stones show was awesome. Seeing Trey open was an added bonus. We got to the stadium at like noon and tailgated all day. Then we had the seats on the stage. It was crazy being able to look straight down and see the Stones.

Not the best, but the most fun I've ever had was at James Taylor concert at the Verizon Amphiteater in 05 or 06 during a huge rainstorm. I know a few other posters where there.

I saw Eric Clapton which was amazing because of not just the music but the lights/effects, etc. I paid for it though.

There at both of these. Clapton w/Derek Trucks was insane. Derek Trucks>>>>>>>>>>>>Warren Haynes.

The Eagles in Charleston, SC on their farewell tour in the mid 2000's.

I saw the Stones on the Steel Wheels tour at Carter Finley in the early 90s. Wasn't even a huge Stones fan but the tickets were released literally when I just happened to be in the record store.

They put on a rockin' show.

The Up in Smoke Tour was actually really good when most rap songs are mediocre at best

random but when thinking of this thread today I thought back to a Reel Big Fish show at the 9:30 Club in DC while in high school and one of the opening bands was the band that sang the "Chewbacca" song from the movie Clerks, the band was called Supernova. When they played that song the place went apeshit.

"What a wookie!!!!!"
"Chewbacca!!!!!!!"

It was so crazy seeing Derek Trucks with the ABB when he was 12.

I really like the current ABB, and they are a better technical band, but they don't have the power of the Haynes/Woody/Betts ABB. Their Whipping Posts would literally knock your face off.

Also saw Paul Simon at Central Park in 1991 and then two days later was at the Newport Jazz Festival seeing Dr. John/Etta James/John Lee Hooker/BB King/Ray Charles/Dave Brubeck/Lou Rawls. That was pretty damn sweet.

The location of the Newport festivals is one of the coolest concert settings there is. Right up against an old fort with the ocean behind you.

Probably was The Clash in Chapel Hill around 1984 or the Tubes in a small theater in Chapel Hill one Halloween. The Tubes always put on a monster show.

Funny story about that Clash show. We were there early and watching the tour bus and off walks Joe Strummer. He walks right passed Dean Smith coming out of the building. Neither of them even gave the other a second look. 2 different worlds walked right passed each other.

I saw so many good club shows while working at the Brewery in Raleigh I can't list the all. Whenever Dash Rip Rock came to town it was a nonstop party. A California band called Concrete Blond was always excellent as well. Mojo Nixon, Rev Horton heat, Bob Margolin, man I miss those days.

I also worked with guy that produced all the skate rink and all age punk shows around Raleigh in the mid 80s. Black Flag, Butthole surfers, Suicidal Tendencies and many many more. I miss those days.
