Manning substitutions

Odom was kind of an idiot all night. Kept praising the depth of a team playing an unrecruited player and Rondale Watson for double digit minutes. A ten man rotation is not the same thing as depth.

Have to agree with you. While I appreciate the tidbits he can provide about Wake Forest hoops, his bumbling delivery and brain farts are annoying as F%@&. Felt the same way after the previous Wake game that he called. Then again, what should we expect from ESPN3?

The Dinos/Collins substitution pattern ( for offense/defense) at the end of games worked tonight but I hope it doesn't continue every game. If Dinos is hot or we need a 3 in a specific situation, fine. But Collins was awesome( again) tonight and is a pretty good foul shooter. I would hate to see him sitting on offense at the end of every game. Get him the damn ball.

Sure he's not a good color commentator, but Odom has been a good representative of Wake and I'm glad he's still a part of the Wake Foret community. He just had to find out that everything wasn't candy and nuts at a big state school, to really appreciate what he had at Wake and what all he accomplished. He's worlds better on the call than the guy that did the Rutgers game on ESPNU Monday night at least.

Agreed, in all regards.

Don't understand the VH comments here at all...Arkansas came back because of some hot shooting and not because VH played a few more minutes than some people thought he should. I like his hustle and intensity-the more he plays the better in the long haul.

I am sure whatever drugs you were on had to be illegal. Drinking alone would not be enough for this comment.

The more he plays, the better (as long as you are a fan of the opposing team).

I hustle when I play too, but I am old and slow and it makes no difference at all when a young fast guy blows by me.

But it's been great for VanHorn to get early, meaningful minutes since we'll need him at some point down the road. The kids values possessions, and that's exactly the reason DM gives him minutes.

If we need him down the road, then that will mean we had 3 more guards injured or on suspension and we will be playing to stay out of the cellar. The only need I see in reguarts to VH is DM's need to send the message that he will play whoever he damn well wants to play.

I have no doubt VH works his ass off in practice and plays as hard as he can during the games. His ceiling is simply ridiculously limited for an ACC player. He's a liability on both ends of the court, based solely off of his athletic ability. And I cannot even begin to fathom why he was substituted in on the final defensive play. His mark got a really, really good look to tie the game as time expired. We're just lucky he bricked it.

Agreed. VH's ceiling is back up minutes at a division III school. If he really loves the game, set him beside Manning with a clipboard and let him learn to coach.

Agree

It's weird TVH gets the minutes he does, when he does, but shit it's hard to say I would rather see McClinton out there instead. If Crab needs a rest and we need someone to play 3 then TVH is probably as good, if not a better option, then GMC or Rondale. TVH is the least likely to turn the ball over, even if his defense is suspect to say the least.

It was also weird seeing Dino's, JC and DT out there with 3-4 minutes left, at least against Arkansas. Dino's was guarding #21 and it blew my mind that they didn't just isolate him.

Just watched the part of the first half I missed last night. Manning killed our momentum after Hudson's third straight three by taking out Hudson and Wilbekin and leaving Van Horn, Watson, and McClinton on the floor.

I posted this after Rutgers: When we get leads and Manning feels comfortable in games he tends to roll out weak lineups.

For example, if we are up 20-10 after the first eight minutes of the game we will likely play a different lineup through the middle of the first half than if we are down 20-10 after eight minutes.

Just to give a little perspective that I'm sure you'll all "enjoy," here's what coach Danny Manning told me before the Rutgers game:

"To me, Trent (Van Horn) has been the unsung hero of the team. He's come in and been solid. He's brought great energy -- really good intensity. He helped us in all the games he's played major minutes in."

Ugh why does the love fest continue?

COACH PALMER: You've tasted chocolate, and now you've tasted failure. Which is more bitter?
KID: Um... I like chocolate more than failure, so that means I should eat more chocolate? I don't understand.
COACH PALMER: Understand this. Any time I think anyone is dogging it, it'll be Bobby Hill. Victory is the carrot and Bobby Hill is the stick.

After I watched the King of the Hill episode where Bobby joins the track team, I realized Danny Manning is indeed the motivational genius we have prayed for. He's using VH's complete and total lack of ability to motivate the other players. Van Horn is the stick, guys. Van Horn is the stick.

It's like when you take a project and want to be proven right so you keep doing the same thing over and over again unwilling to give up, just give it up manning TVH sucks and can't play at this level.
