I'm an amateur bird nerd. The Swallow-Tailed Kite is my personal favorite. I've seen two in my entire life in SC. Never saw one in NC.

Nice! I am a professional bird nerd. I love Swallow tailed Kites. I've got a pair of Mississippi kites that nest down the street from me. It is fun to watch Kites fly.

You get points for having a kite high on your list. Though red kites are the best.

Saw my lifer red kite in Marlow, the U.K. in May of this year. The population was extirpated but reintroduced about 20 years ago and they have done remarkably well.

bmoney - Do you ever wake up on Tuesday and sometime during the day smile once you realize it's Greg Cote Tuesday?

BobHWS is a great niche poster - did you know he went to Dartmouth? Ppl forget that.

Totally. Actually, both of my sightings were of nesting pairs that were circling cut corn fields. They have a pretty sweet migration, too.

I've been working on identification of my wading birds since moving back to the coast.

I'm definitely a tree nerd as well. Flora and fauna, y'all.

I saw a green jay hanging around a bunch of chahalacas at the National Butterfly Center and I've watched The Big Year four times. So I have that going for me I guess. No blue bunting though.

This red kite chick was not happy about posing.
At the time of the study there were about 5 nesting pairs in southern Denmark. Their reintroduction has been going well but there are still only about 150 birds nationwide

It was 63 in my house this morning so I caved and turned the heat on while I went out for a run. Doesn't seem like there was enough time between AC and heat this year. I want weeks and weeks of open windows!
