Wake Forest's own Tommy Elrod caught leaking football information to other teams

I'm honestly livid. Fuck that guy. If there's some way he can go to prison for this I would like that to happen, if not I hope he never finds another job in his lifetime and lives in a box his whole life. How could a person who played football and coached kids do this to the players? What an absolute piece of shit.

I'm in the party that wants to find out information about schools who took the information, along with schools who didn't and still didn't have the integrity to alert our staff or athletic department about what was going on. Just absolutely fucking insane.

What a piece of shit!

Wellman really should release the info on what schools were involved unless they take action themselves. Any program that used his information should be penalized by the ncaa or at least identified by the conference. Presidents should be up in arms about their schools cheating like they are about politics. One also has to wonder if he released player injury info that could have provided schools insight into how to eliminate significant players like Kendall and John. That would simply be sick!

that is one frightening thought right there

I had a class with him and he definitely gave off the "I'm a football player so I'm cool" vibe, even though he was a scrub. But I had been impressed with him on the radio, and then my heart went out to him over that story about his baby, as did all of ours. I suppose ESPN will not resurrect that piece during this reporting because it involves his family.

Some very funny comments on this thread, including that we're now a big-time program and "vacate the losses!" Well done.
My guess is with his Grobe connections he'll be a nice fit at Baylor.

I wonder if this will be a distraction or a rallying cry for our players. Probably the latter. They already dealt with the distraction when the first news broke about a breach.

This makes me want to listen to some radio clips around the time the breach was announced. He had to be aware that trouble could be brewing.

Had this happened at Alabama or somewhere like that, there'd be a mob dragging him out of his house about now.

IIRC, he recruited Wolford (?) Pretty sure he mentioned that several times during broadcasts...we always laughed at his multiple digs at Clawson and staff..."a good coach would know how to create openings for John" from one of our early games this year comes to mind. We laughed, but we never thought he was a freakin' Judas.

Want to see more from WF on this. This is about a serious a betrayal as a former player/coach could make. Sickening to think this could have affected the outcome of many games for the current coaches and players. This is absurd enough, but there are a few angles that could make it a much bigger story.

1 -- if he was doing this for 3 years (!) how did no other assistant or coach blow the whistle? Coaching fraternity is tight and I can't imagine multiple programs just accepting a ton of info unsolicited from a former coach/player and current announcer. It is such a small circle that it seems bizarre that WF wouldn't be alerted until now.

2 -- was it unsolicited? If he was getting any kind of kickbacks from other teams than this becomes a whole 'nother can of worms and a massive scandal beyond MSD.

3 -- Was there anything mentioned about the Louisville game in particular that caused this wider review?

4 -- what did he disclose? Just plays/tendencies? What if it was personal information about a player's injury status?

All the teams that he provided info to... eff them.

All the teams that he tried to provide info to and they didn't blow the whistle on him... eff them.

Basically, maybe all the teams in the ACC are cheaters?

Does this mean that Wake is actually home of offensive game planning geniuses and we've just been snuffed out by a mole?

Holy Mother of God. You have got to be kidding me.

He was definitely upset after he wasn't retained by Clawson, but to my understanding, Wellman made sure he was taken care of...hence the IMG job and unlimited access to Wake Forest football.

To say I'm shocked is an understatement. Would have never, ever expected this from Elrod. WFU is his alma mater for Christ's sake.

ETA: was just told that he acquired his day job with the help of his WFU connections. Wellman and the entire athletic dept had a real soft spot for him and his family- especially after the death of his infant son.

Wow. Just freaking wow.

If that is true, this awful situation is even worse than I thought.

This sucks, but no ACC team needed this info to know what plays we were going to run.

According to the twitters, Elrod had retained a criminal defense attorney- WFU's own James Quander.

What's the actual ramifications for any opponents that took the info, if it's proven?

This is instantly the most bizarre ACC story I can remember in ... pretty much my entire lifetime. Frankly, I'm up for the 30 for 30 on this in a few years ... how the fuck and why the fuck was this going on?
