Wake Forest's own Tommy Elrod caught leaking football information to other teams

Caldwell was the biggest joke of a head coach at the college level anyone has ever seen.

Todd Ellis of South Carolina gets the same amount of access to the football program down there. He was also a former QB.

It is not rare for the color guy to get this kind of access to the football program. The good color guys give great insight that no one knows about because of their access to the program. It's normal.

Based on what I've seen and heard about Clawson I'm surprised he would give total access to someone he didn't know, even if he had Wake ties. My dislike for Wellman's athletic department causes me to see his fingerprints on this suggestion.

Wellman probably had something to do with getting Elrod the IMG job.

i'm surprised nobody is talking about last year's game vs Louisville given that we ended up losing by 1 point while throwing like 4 picks in the second half. I don't see any reason to think Elrod didn't contact Galloway and staff last year. Who knows how far this goes down the rabbit hole

Palma, the third amigo, is eerily quiet. Might he be planning to Elrod the triumvirate? Be careful who you trust RJ

Galloway was on the WV staff in 2015.

When Clawson first got here he made an effort to talk to everybody on the wall during the first few practices. He spoke with Cumberland and me a few times in private to get to know us and figure out how he could help us/lay some ground rules. He was definitely forthcoming about a lot of things, but also made it clear that certain things were off topic/practices were closed.

I am guessing he did the same thing with Elrod, and the more he got to know him the more he let him in (as is human nature).

This is Galloway's first year at Louisville.

There are only four games in question if we are just looking at former Grobe coaches:

2014 Army
2015 Army
2015 Indiana
2016 Louisville

Mack makes a good point. Elrod essentially got caught up in corporate restructuring. Happens to people every day. If you are a valued employee they will likely try to find a role for you to slide into. He accepted that role. At that point he got the same access you would expect anyone in that role to get.

Blaming Wellman or Clawson is essentially blaming the pedestrian that gets mowed down on the sidewalk by the drunk driver.

I remember thinking when Elrod became the color analyst on the radio it seemed a little odd that a member of the outgoing staff would do that, but I also remember reading he wanted to get out of coaching and given his knowledge it made sense that he would be decent candidate for the job. It never entered my mind that he would do something like this and I really don't fault anybody at Wake for it not entering their mind either. Unfortunately, despite thousands of years of human existence, people still do things that are so unprecedented, that they can't be foreseen. Steve Spurrier said on Mike and Mike he'd never heard of anything like this in all his year around the game. That was also about the only coherent thing he said during the interview.

The idea that Elrod was "fired" by Clawson or Wake is ridiculous. If an assistant has a reason to consider himself "fired", it was anybody on his staff at Bowling Green whom Clawson did not offer a position at Wake. So in essence, any coach that Clawson did not bring to Wake who subsequently did not get a job with the new coach at BG was "fired" twice.

I'm not sure I fully buy this but I'll at least put it out there. For the people that think it was absurd Elrod had this kind of access, think of it from the AD's perspective.

You've got a guy you trust that can also be of great value to you. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. We give you special access, you become an advocate of the university and the athletic department. It is very common for us to have people in the media we can trust will back us. It's a PR best practice. Unfortunately, we just trusted the wrong guy.

I think as this unfolds this will be the interesting part. Was it limited to former co-workers of Elrod, maybe he felt that Clawson slighted Grobe's assistants in interviewing for his staff and he was trying to help his former co-workers to try to make Clawson look bad? Or was he reaching out to provide information to others that he didn't have that relationship with?
