What's the best Rolling Stones song? For me, it's Gimme Shelter, with Sympathy for the Devil a close 2nd.

For me it's probably a tie between Gimme Shelter and 19th Nervous Breakdown.

I still think GnR did a halfway-decent cover of Sympathy back in 1995, although I've heard people bash it.

I was driving home and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" came on, I thought about posting a "your favorite Stone's song" thread. Weird...

I voted for "You Can't Always Get What You Want"

I just think Gimme Shelter is a fantastic song. It comes across as really driving and intense for some reason. I still can't believe the female backup singer had a miscarriage from singing such a high note.

Not one song from 'Some Girls' represented? Complete poll fail.

Just My Imagination
Beast Of Burden
Far Away Eyes
Shattered
Some Girls

The correct answer is Tumbling Dice.

Only 10 options and I wanted to cover most of their hits.

I can't vote in a Stones poll that doesn't include this song. Exile is one hell of an album.

Tough choice ... Gimme Shelter, Sympathy for the Devil and You Can't Always Get What You Want are all GREAT songs. I voted for You Can't Always Get What You Want.

Gimme Shelter was just a perfect recording. Incredible. So many imperfections when you focus on the cuts instrument by instrument, vocal by vocal, but it's exactly the kind of distress you'd want a song about an oncoming apocalypse to show. Together, the imperfections are just perfect. The track has a wiki, and I think it's correct:

Recent Rolling Stones tours have seen the song, once a staple of the show, dropped from the set list.[citation needed] Many fans consider it to be more of a great recording than a great song.[citation needed] Greil Marcus, writing in Rolling Stone, once described it as "the greatest ever rock and roll recording."

Happy. (sorry, Mick)

Just finished reading Life a few weeks ago. What an outstanding read...and I'm just a casual Stones fan. Granted, he wrote it...but it really made Keef seem incredibly committed to his craft.
