Official '16-17 NBA Thread: not with a bang but a whimper

The Mavs have told Deron Williams they will pay off the full remaining amount of his deal if he wants to be a free agent, league sources say

Looks like this is finally official

Does you posting it actually make it official then?

let me try:

Andrew Bogut and the bearded spanish guard to the Kings for darren collison

Think McBuckets can still ball in the right environment. A better Belinelli. Underrated athlete.

Bummed about the trade.

like, if the market is that flooded for big men to lower his value so much, uh... take that shit to restricted free agency and re-sign him

Or take that shit to restricted free agency and lose him for nothing because you don't want to match. You're trading contracts, not people or skills at that point. Nerlens doesn't have an attractive contract.

What happens if some crazy owner (Hi Vivek!) offers Noel, $15-18M? Would you want the Sixers to match it to keep as a back-up?
You think it would be crazy to give a 22yo Nerlens Noel the same contract as Bismack Biyombo?

Remember when GM RJ said George Hill was overpaid at $8 million/year? Hill is averaging 17.5 ppg, 4.0 apg, 3.5 rpg, and posting a 20.20 PER for the 35-22 Jazz.

He's the definition of a mediocre player and gets paid more than the average salary. He's slightly overpaid.

Only on a mediocre team is he a starter. He wouldn't start on most contenders. He should be paid exception money at the most.

JT was an All Star and then was hurt last year. In this market, he should get $15M to start.

He played tons of minutes but only averaged 12.1 ppg. He doesn't pass that well, isn't that quick or fast. If you are a stats guy, Hill's PER is in a tie for 204th.

Sorry, he's an average player. And will be past his NBA prime in a year or two.

EDIT: His PER is 47th in the NBA. The only PG who plays over 30 mpg who has a lower PER is Muiday http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/pg

the best part of the trade deadline is always the coming weeks when it's like "the celtics could have had demarcus cousins but ainge balked at giving up a 2019 2nd round pick"

and Simmons getting super salty about it on twitter and when he bitches to Joe House

Gotta love Hinkie getting the last laugh on the bozo Colangelos. He gets all the credit for the positive stuff. They get all the blame for not being able to find a clean way out of the logjam he created.

If Colangelo starts nailing high lottery picks, it'll be because Hinkie got him the picks. If he fucks them up, it'll be because he's a dope. Hilarious stuff. Couldn't happen to a shittier family.

Think that's crazy, too.

But it's even crazier for the Sixers given the likelihood that Noel will be a 12-20 mpg back-up for the entirety of his contract.

You know what that proves? I shouldn't use analytics as using them showed Hill to be a below average player.

It really seems like the entire eastern conference outside of Toronto is just trying to wait out the Lebron Cavaliers. Its pretty chicken shit how none of the East playoff teams are trying to win now, meanwhile 3 different West teams are fighting to get swept by the Dubs.

What have the Colangelo's done? Can you tell me? Biiiig Jerry Colangelo. What has he done?

Ultimately it just shows that Nerlens was a bad fit on the Sixers because he has the potential to be a starter, and he will eventually command the commensurate contract of a starter.

To be fair to RJ, George Hill turning out to be the only Pacer that didn't completely suck from that group that challenged for the 1 seed (besides PG of course) was not the easiest thing to predict. Can't believe how hard Lance and Hibbert fell off a cliff after leaving the pacers
