HP's UNC-Cheat Thread - UNC comes out on top, NCAA penalized by UNC

UNC should be forced to publish the name of each athlete who took these bogus classes...if necessary publish the name of every student, we'll figure out who the athletes were.

I know you're just venting, but that's illegal under FERPA.

Wake fans should not be surprised. Cheating scandal involving multiple cheating programs against Wake Football. A few institutions disciplined a few employees. The NCAA? No investigation. No penalties. Outright, blantant cheating. They did zero.

I'm pretty mad about this. Can somebody cheer me up by posting some of the meltdown from Pack Pride?

Yeah. wow. I volunteer a lot of time with NCAA athletics. I think I am done after this season. I am at a school that values academics more than your typical sports factory, but they are still a member of the NCAA. I think this is my breaking point on supporting that. I have come around to thinking there are a lot more deserving causes to which to donate my time.

UNC now joins the same list as Casey Anthony and OJ. Everybody knows they did it, but "lack of proof" set them free.

Maybe Investigation Discovery will to a mini series on it.

That's a pretty good t-shirt idea. Linking OJ - Casey Anthony - and UNC. Maybe Weinstein instead of Anthony?

I know you're just venting, but that's illegal under FERPA.

Would it be illegal for someone at PackPride to compile a list of all the members of championship teams whose eligibility depended on these fake classes...whose sheepskin was "earned" by not actually doing college work?

It would be an interesting read and would forever tarnish these teams.

NCAA are who we thought they were. They just said if you offer it to everyone then you are good to go. So a scenario can be we pay all students a percentage of the (made up variable, like school exposure or money earned tied to them) and look at that football and basketball players legally paid tens of thousands of dollars and as long as the debate captain and the fraternity that got in the paper for doing some charity get 10 dollars it's all good.

I have the hope and expectation, that someone on the inside of this entire fiasco and who was perhaps treated badly...made a scapegoat...will write a "tell all" book that will bring the light to bear upon the whole sorted mess going back to Dean Smith, if need be.

Are there any UNC fans that don't cherish banners over academic integrity that would like to weigh in on this? I don't really care what the rubes that never had a chance of actually going to UNC think.

I said that "Wake should stop holding themselves to an academic standard that others aren't playing by" but it was mostly tongue in cheek. If Wake did this, whether the NCAA punished them or not, I would still be ashamed. I know there is an "easier" route through school for athletes at Wake, mostly because they get the early sign up times, but I took some of those courses that were supposedly "athlete courses" and they were certainly not "paper courses." A scandal like this would devastate Wake, but UNC is arguably too big to fail.

Now THAT is the funniest line of the day.

Man this ruling is really not helping me be more positive about the basic institutions of our society (something I know that I need to do) Only validating that man is inherently selfish and that its always about the money. Question any institution that pretends to be noble and just.

I know one. A first cousin who was disgusted that his diploma had been cheapened. Was a big contributor, stopped giving $ and stopped buying season tickets. The other 200-300 alumni I know still believe in the "Carolina Way".

And on the same day, State fans get this slap in the face from the NCAA.

http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/nc-state/state-now/article178677026.html
N.C. State freshman guard Braxton Beverly has been ruled ineligible by the NCAA to play basketball this season season.
Beverly, a 6-foot shooting guard, started taking classes at Ohio State before he joined N.C. State’s program in August. Under NCAA transfer rules, he has to sit out the 2017-18 season but will have four seasons of eligibility at N.C. State.

NCAA wants to punish NC State basketball freshman for ... going to class?

So yes. On the same day, UNC skates for athletes taking fake classes, State gets punished for a student who attended real classes.

Have you heard about the US Congress and the President of the United States ?

I'm happy with the findings. Just proves what I've always said about unc. The entire university is a joke and their academics are worthless across the board. And the school not only admits it, they argued for that conclusion. Got a unc diploma, put it in the bottom of a birdcage.
