Possible Wake Forest Coaching Candidates Analysis

What about Staak, Tacy, McCloskey (no Wake ties)? And Murdock, McKinney, Greeson (Wake ties)?

Yes, exactly, the point isn't that those with Wake ties are better. The point is you really have a lot of knowledge of the person. If you go hire the Tulsa coach, you really have no clue what he's like. If you are associated with Wake, we know you and know which of you to hire and, frankly, which ones of you not to hire. We have done a horrible job of identifying talent outside the Wake pool and have done a great job identifying those in our pool who should be promoted. That is not a coincidence.

All of the that makes sense, but this time around nobody is expecting a wildcard to get hired. If JC lands one of the “big 3”, there is little argument against it being a slam dunk. The public doesn’t need Wake ties to know someone like Oats/Smart/Matta would be a great hire for the program.

This is almost a great point, but probably applies less for big-time athletics than anywhere else. There aren’t many secrets here, the results are public and the connections / networks beyond that are so widespread because it’s a fairy small community.

Beyond that, we have little to no inside info on guys you’ve stumped like Wojo and Miller, neither of whom either attended or coached at Wake.
 
I’m guessing Manning’s contract was structured for exactly this situation. In their alternate reality, Manning was only a step away from bolting for KU.

My big 3 are Miller, Kelsey, & Turner. But ok, let’s say you offer the three above and they all turn down the offer. Who is your next choice?
 
Holy shit...maybe we can get KU to eat Manning's buyout? Dare to dream? What if KU essentially pays us to hire Shaka? WHAT IF THIS WAS ALL PART OF WELLMANS 10 YEAR MASTER PLAN FOR HOOPS?

Not a huge Russell Turner fan, but his resume got another boost last night.

They’ve had a heck of a season.

It’s pretty clear all you’re looking to do is be in position to say “I told you so”. That’s always been your MO - you’re smart, we’re dumb, if we had only listened to you we’d be cutting down nets, etc. Time to give it up, it’s not productive to this conversation.

Of the 3 you list, only Wes Miller should be on any list and that as a plan C or D. Turner has had some success - but hasn’t worked on the east coast in 20 years and is hardly the kind guy to build something back up. Kelsey’s resume simply does not warrant consideration.

Even if Miller was hired and didn't pan out, the talking points have been pre-written...."We needed to do something bold and risky. It didn't work out, so what. We need to do it again until we find our Coach K or Bob Knight. Time for me to go pay $2 to become a member at Augusta you losers".

The likelihood that you’ve watched more than a few minutes of Miller, Kelsey, and Turner coach is very low. Say what you want about DR’s delivery of his message, but he follows all these programs closely and his opinion is informed by actually watchin these guys.
