Does anyone here truly think we would've been able to outspend Bama for a coach? Not only that, but Bama's program probably looks better too in terms of current roster and facilities. The only reason Oats would've chosen Wake is because he preferred to be at a non-football school, location, etc. Wake would've been more competitive had we not had this lost decade.
I couldn't disagree more. Even today with our BB Program and reputation in shambles, Wake is much better job than Bama in all aspects. As far as $$, there is no reason in the world we couldn't match Bama and their basketball program dollar for dollar. If Manning was shown the door as he should of been, we could of landed Oates.

I think Wake probably could spend as much as Alabama was willing to spend. With the new Shah center, we will probably have them beat for basketball facilities as well. Furthermore, they've snagged pretty big coaching names the last two go-arounds and don't have a lot to show for it. The only time they've had consistent success over the last 30 years was when Gottfried was there doing his Gottfried things (also - they weren't that successful - three winning conference records in eleven years).
They have more money as an athletic department, but basketball is not a priority for them like it is / should be at Wake.
They really missed out on Wes Miller.

This place is gonna go nuts when VaTech hires Shaka.
Alabama has consistently one of the biggest revenue generating athletic departments in the NCAA. From the available information, Wake Athletics probably make about $100 million less per year than Alabama.
VPI will go McKay, Alexander or Miller IMO. Reach is Matta who will still interview somewhere (has to in order to get paid as others have mentioned)
