The Journal is reporting that Ramon Booi returned to practice yesterday and is possible for BC next weekend. This is very good news if he can give us some solid minutes.

This is huge news... I think he will have a major impact on our Defense.

I know Duke has not played many minutes, but I feel like he has acquitted himself pretty well when he has been in there.

I'm still convinced we're better off if we can rotate 2 or 3 NG's during the game. That is not a shot at Nikita, he's great, but I just don't see how fatigue couldn't be a factor for him if he's asked to play 90 percent of the snaps.

Need a rotation badly. Even All-Pro NG's in the NFL get some time rest.

That was the preseason chatter...interchange the two as you are able for run and pass. Nikita is most effective against the pass and though he draws 2 men on run plays, Booi's body would absorb a good deal more space and narrow the lanes...provided he gets positioned correctly.

Staff had been saying good things and then he got dinged up a little...similar to Godfrey at the start of 2010. Dennis has improved through that last hurdle lets hope Booi can do the same.

Good fortune on the bye week...

I'm obviously happy that he's coming back, but he really didn't do anything last year to make me believe that he's going to be a difference-maker. Was he making noise this spring/fall?

Actually yes. The staff had praised him and talked as if he'd matured and learned to concentrate much more. The knock on Ramon has never been his God given ability but rather his somewhat flighty behaviour. He's a young guy and the coaches feel like the "squash is now done". With the attrition throughout the league - particularly in the trenches - it will just be good to have another competitive body inside.

Heard him tell Steelman after practice yesterday his knee felt great and he felt no pain.

Thanks Bill that is very encouraging news...little big man needs some help.

Maybe this "odd couple" can get going now...

This. His addition could substantially improve the performance game-long of our entire defense.

I believe that this what the hopeful Deac looks for. You come to rely on guys playing their best football as Jr's and Sr's --as we all know, this is just how the program is set up... you begin to expect solid play from a Betros, or Booi, Haynes,Davis,Okoro,Givens,Jackson,Williams,Ellis -- overall our weakest class by far yet we still need some SR's to emerge from this group for 2012. Betros, Williams,Davis and Haynes seem to be embracing it and Givens and Jackson are excelling but we must have more from this paltry class.

Booi also affords the Deacs to throw different looks at other offenses. You might see Booi and Whitlock in together.

Excellent point D4L. I concentrated on watching him when he went in. He had as good of a 3 down series as NT can have. 1st. down, took on the double team slid down the line and made the tackle, 2nd.down, much the same and was the 2nd. or 3rd. person to the ball carrier, 3rd. down, got as good a push toward the passer as you can get while being double teamed. After the series, one of the coaches approached him with a smile and congratulated him.

I know it was Gardner Webb, but they had some big guys and Duke played the position well. Another year in the weight room plus some experience and I think we'll have a good one.

Its about time for Ramon to start whipping some ass.

Hope he's ready mentally as well as physically.
He needs to start using the tools he has with a 'take no prisoners' attitude.
If he does this, he not only adds depth, but could significantly help our D overall
