Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

I'd rather play in the Military Bowl again than in the Sun Bowl. The Sun Bowl is a wasteland.

I'd rather play a team from the Pac-12 than the American. Two of our last 3 bowl opponents have been from the American.

Plus the Sun Bowl is the only bowl game that CBS broadcasts, so we will get Nessler and Danielson. It's also got a better day, playing on New Year's Eve.

It's just an all around better bowl.

More like food poysoning, right ?

This pun really falls flat because it's spelled "poi".

So is it the Sun Bowl at this point? There's lots of bowl projections out there, but I don't know which to believe.

Nothing will be confirmed until after the conference championships, but it looks that the Sun Bowl is most likely, with the Pinstripe Bowl next.

As noted above, the consensus projections would put us in the Sun Bowl, however it often seems to change at the last minute. I recollect we didn’t initially expect to go to the Military or Music City bowls— can’t remember if the Belk was well known ahead of time. While I would think Curry will lobby hard for the Pinstripe, I imagine he loses out to Swofford and UNC on that one , as Giglio projects.

any chance we finalize a bowl before the championship game since the bowl selection order isn't linear?

The Sun Bowl isn't a bad deal. Unlike most of the other bowls it's actually got some history, and despite the rep on these boards west Texas is not a terrible destination at all, especially in winter. I'd much prefer that over the Military or Pinstripe bowls.

zero chance it's officially announced before the championship game, although there could be some more confident projections before then

Jay Sawvel apparently didn't understand Wake. His defenses prior to Wake were top 20. He got to Wake and developed a bottom 20 defense with guys that played much better without him. Go figure.

I think he was a DC only one year before coming to Wake. Seems I recall he was promoted from DB coach after the DC in front of him, left.

I was hovering over the 'book now' button for my Tampa flight on selection Sunday last year.  The prognostication hive mind was fairly confident in Gasparilla until the die was cast.

El Paso is barely in Texas though.

For exposure, the Sun Bowl is not bad because its the only bowl CBS televises. So, you get their A broadcasting team, and its on network TV (if that matters any more). It's played on New Years Eve during the afternoon, when a lot of people aren't working or working a half-day and thus, there is a decent-sized audience ready and willing to watch football. All that is good.

For travel for WF's limited fanbase, the Sun Bowl location blows. El Paso is almost in New Mexico (1,700 miles from Winston - not driveable; 600+ miles from Dallas; 700+ miles from Houston); there is no easy and cheap way of getting there. Won't be many WF fans in attendance. Would rather play in NYC, Nashville, DC, Florida, but would rather play in the Sun Bowl than not play. Also, playing a Pac-12 team is kind of fun.

Just to be clear, it's not easy for any other ACC team or fanbase to try to get to El Paso either, so suggesting Wake should try to negotiate out of it is kind of dumb.

Not to mention, I told you people four months ago we were going to the Sun Bowl, so you've had plenty of time to make arrangements.

We will be weaker at cornerback.

Losing Basham and replacing with? Johns is good on one side - like him a lot.

Safeties should be very, very good. We seem always to have 1 good one and a serviceable other Safety, yet 2020 we will have 2 really exceptional ones (maybe 3).

We should have more speed at LB if we play Hudson and...we still have guys (LB) at Death Valley who were so juked out, they are stuck in the field. That true FR that flipped to Oklahoma would have played NY.

Interior DL - looks good.

Kicker - best in college football.

Punter - we will be worse.

Kickoffs - good lord.

I think you're overstating how good the safeties will be and understating how big of a deal the cornerback position will be. Greer is a hard hitter and good in run D, and we've seen him track down some would be long TD's, but I'm not sure I'm convinced that he or Rucker are solid in pass D. This year they've had two very good corners to lean on for help that they won't have next year. Losing Henderson and Bassey is going to hurt badly. Taylor will be fine, but I don't even know what we have after that, Essissma is next on the depth chart this year but has barely played. Do the safeties look good this year because our corners are making them look good, and will they be able to cover for inexperience at corner next year?

So with the questions in the secondary, losing Basham is going to really hurt. He consistently gets to the QB and draws a lot of doubles this year. If one of Johns or McCollum can become that guy it would be huge, and we'll probably also need the DT's to step up in pass rush to really have a decent defense next year.

True. I think one factor that was in play last year was that we were out of the ACC bowl tie ins, so there were many different variables at play. This year we are locked in to a Tier 1 bowl, so it will be Sun, Pinstripe, Belk, or Music City/Gator. There's an outside chance at the Camping World Bowl.

Yeah, the Bronx in December is way better

Stay in midtown Manhattan and do all the fun sightseeing in NYC around Christmas and then take the 4 to Yankee stadium for the game. Way better than El Paso. Hotel options around NYC and Westchester County much greater than El Paso.
