CONOR Football News 2020

Add Miles Fox to the paragraph on the D-line. Clawson seems pretty excited that we'll have him next year. I think if we stay healthy, the D-line could be very good next year, which will be key with the secondary maybe taking a step back.

The only remaining issue is the NCAA approving his 6th year of eligibility. I don't think that happens until after all college foorball has been played this season.

Anybody remember when NCAA approved Justin Herron for his sixth year?

Very good post but we also need someone to step up in the slot. Robeson did not have a great year from what I saw. Very tentative trying to catch passes.

Roberson had a nice catch on 2nd down against Michigan State. He played in that game more than he has all season. I noticed he got pulled for the false start penalty though, and in came Nolan Groulx. It seems like in bowl games, Clawson tries to give a lot of playing time to some of the younger guys. He had a lot of true freshmen play that hadn’t played all year (especially at linebacker).

I think we’re ok though. Isaiah Isaac was hurt, he’ll be coming back “with a vengeance” hopefully. He’s got a lot of speed. Of course Nolan is talented, I think he’ll push Roberson for the starting job. But I don’t think Roberson is tentative at all. Unfortunately a lot of the balls thrown to him on Friday were off, but he always dove down to try and get them. He’s a good player, who had a great fall camp according to Les and Conor.

Taylor Morin looks like a poor man’s Campanaro on tape, which is pretty darn good. The late commit slot from Philly appears to have some Dortch in him. Very quick and shifty. The slot appears to be in good shape.

Sounds like Jamie was tired of getting beaten up in Clawson's SRPO (Stop, Pass, Run Option).

Offense seems to run just fine with Wolford and Sam. Ran fine at times at Jamie. He is slow to make decisions and resorts to using his physical skills to either run or throw the deep ball. How many throws did he complete to the TE this year? How many did he complete in the middle of the field between 0-20 yards down field? Not a lot. Some of that is coaching. A lot of it is the QB is is actually running the RPO and making the decision as to where the ball goes. I liked Jamie and will miss him, but he got as much benefit out of Wake as he provide to Wake.

I hope Clawson realizes that he needs to step in and make personnel changes quickly when the team is sleepwalking or key players have their head elsewhere. Louisville, Syracuse and Pinstripe bowl games all come to mind, where our coaches sat on their thumbs, instead of making obvious changes. All three were needless losses.

Reading that reminded me of one of the issues that needs to be addressed, and that is the defense bull rushing Wake's guards and pushing them back to the mesh point of the RPO. Maginn and Nya (or whomever replaces them next season) need to be stouter at preventing the bull rush by opposing Defensive linemen.

Conor, thanks for outstanding football coverage enhanced by your willingness to interact on this board. You might want to do a film review of today's basketball game. Opportunities for "light and fun" might be limited.

Much appreciated, SD and Blackjack. As I told somebody on Twitter (and might have said on here earlier in the season, come to think of it), the film reviews are cathartic in a way, and really give me a great opportunity to pick up on things I might have missed during games.

I had a thought to DVR the game Saturday but didn't. I'm sure there will be a few more opportunities.

ESPN may have it for rerun.

Don’t like the comment “pro scouts wanted to see him outside the wake forest offense” let’s let all the local recruits read that say better not go to Wake

About as bad that Lea Wake zone show where the 102 guy talked about how we should never be good and Lea talked about be a Duke fan

That die has been cast for awhile now. Either recruits respect our record of success with Clawson’s offense or they don’t.
