I don't know about being excited. Right now I'm not too excited about much coming out of WFU. I'll take the wait and see route with whatever coach walks through the door.

redo the poll to "Would you be excited if <literally anyone but manning and redacted> was the next Bball coach at Wake Forest?"

same results

Not me. I was disappointed the moment bz then later dm were announced. Both were very poor hires and showed absolute ineptitude by our AD. A meh hire will not get me buying tickets again. A hire like Beilein would. I’m also fine with a young up and comer with a lot of promise but not P5 experience. It is possible to identify young coaching talent/potential. But there are a lot of hires out there that would keep me ignoring basketball.

Fan dissatisfaction is high in a lot of locales, which makes sense when a 15-team league is looking at just three or four NCAA bids. John Currie opted to keep Danny Manning after arriving as AD at Wake Forest last year, but that is a tougher stance to maintain as the Demon Deacons toil toward a third straight losing season and fifth in his six years there. At Boston College, Jim Christian is in his sixth season with no NCAA bid in sight. Josh Pastner is trying to avoid a third straight losing season in his four years at Georgia Tech.

Maybe the question should be "Are you okay hiring Beilein if he brings his son along as an assistant?"

"While Texas would give Beilein the best chance to win right away, Boston College or Wake Forest might make more sense for other reasons. As some have pointed out, it may all come down to whether Beilein wants to bring aboard his son Patrick, who stepped down on the eve of the season at Niagara for personal reasons. If the elder Beilein wants Patrick to be on his staff as an assistant and possible successor, some schools might balk at that move while others might be more amenable.
There is some speculation that Boston College or Wake Forest would be more likely to accept both Beileins while Texas would be less likely to do so."

The successor part scares me, not going to lie. I don't really care if he's on his dad's staff but the possible successor in waiting seems like a really bad idea out of the gate.

I'm not concerned about any successor issues. If Beilein wants our job, then give it to him. We can work out any issues with Patrick when the time comes.

Some "smart" folks over on the Facebooks compared him to [Redacted] (due to his failure as an NBA head) and wished for someone like Childress who could "bring our identity back." Hard to argue with that!!!

Probably Russia trying to interfere with our coaching search.

I am on record that we need to go young, but Beilein would be the exception. Bring him in and let him coach as long as he wants.

Would be as close as you can get to guaranteeing a righted ship. He could erase much of the Wellman damage and possible leave Wake where it was pre-BZ.

“I want to call out the Cleveland Cavaliers. I thought what they did to coach Beilein was ridiculous, unprofessional,” Barkley said. “I think the veterans on that team were not leaders. I think the young guys on that team who can’t play think they are better than they are and they tried to get that man fired. They got that man fired ... I’m so disgusted by those players trying to get that man fired.

“John Beilein is a hell of a coach and I think he’s a good guy. But for those players to complain about ‘We’re practicing too hard, we’re watching too much film,’ because they stink. Because they stink. I just didn’t think that was fair. When a coach is wrong I’m going to call him out. When players are wrong I’m going to call them out. I’m disgusted by what the Cavaliers did to coach Beilein." - Charles Barkley
