New coaching search thread

I don't get the negativity towards Miller on here. I think he would be a really good hire.

I definitely prefer Matta/Forbes over him, but he's a clear No. 3 for me and I would not be upset with that at all.

Why do you like Miller? I don't like Miller for the same reason I don't like Kelsey. 1 NCAA Tournament appearance in his entire coaching career while supposedly being a transcendent coaching talent and coaching in a garbage conference.

And that track record with Manning was explicitly mentioned when he was dismissed. I could easily see our administration putting a premium on academic track record.

10 years later and we still are dealing with this issue. Frustrating that we are seemingly the only damn program in the country that has this "issue".

My concern is who his dad is. If he comes to Wake and fails, how long a leash does he get? He may come in and kill it and that'd be great but what if he doesn't?

ETA: That is also my concern with Odom and Kelsey since they have ties to Wake in some form.

I also think Miller would kind of be disinclined to come take a job where Daddy is a big donor. Too much of that “did he get the job because of his Dad?” He might want to blaze his own trail.

You have given out too much Reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later.

Flight just left Winston for Greenville NC.

edit: oops it was NC

I wrote an entire article about him last off-season.

Combination of youth, grasp of Wake/ACC, the turnaround at UNC-G, how he changed styles to fit what worked, and lately, his recruiting.

There are always questions about younger coaches who haven't gotten a shot yet, but I think he has a damn good track record for somebody who can succeed.

Forbes and Kelsey seem most likely if you take information from both sides.

just asking for someone with a personality and some fire in their belly. Not too much to ask for someone to inspire the players and fan base.

I spoke with a former player this morning and this is exactly what he said WFU needs in the next coach.

SoCo has been a much improved conference over the last few years. Comparing the Southern and Big South isn't even close to apples to apples. Winthrop has been a pretty dominant team in a terrible conference and Kelsey still only has two* (this year would've been two) tourney appearances to show for it.

In fact, the average Southern Conference team in KP is about as far away from the average Big South team as the average SoCo team is to the average SEC team from last year.

If the flight is Wake related to Greenville/Greer, SC then it's Bob Richey at Furman, not Kelsey at Winthrop.

Don't remember the exact timing of everything, but pretty sure former Furman AD Mike Buddie (now at Army) hired Richey. Also believe Buddie and Currie go back a ways.

If anybody is not subscribed to DDD, now is the time to sign up. Les' updates cut right through so much of the BS floating around and address a lot of the (mostly negative) misinformation

Here are my current thoughts:

-I think national reporters, like Goodman, have good connections with coaching agents. Those coaching agents, in my opinion, would be more likely to have an agenda to say their guy is a top candidate for publicity than Wake Forest releasing misinformation.

-For that reason, I think Les is our best bet for info right now. His source has stayed steady throughout the entire process so far and is well connected. I don't see any reason why Wake would create a misinformation campaign outside of releasing a shitty candidate to make the actual hire look better.

There have been reports that Kelsey impressed, Miller and Forbes are the leaders, Miller and Forbes are out, Matta is final three, Matta is out, Amaker is on top, Amaker isn't in the top three, etc.

The only candidate we haven't heard anything about is Odom, so I'd say it's safe to say he's not super involved. The other five all have relatively equal odds at this point for me because we all know nothing more than we did on Sunday.

I like Miller as well. Only seen his teams a few times and a couple of interviews but he seems like a smart guy with alot of energy. His team gave Kentucky a scare at Kentucky. His team did not back down and played with alot of poise. I would be happy with him or Forbes if they are the finalists

The thought of having to listen to a former Blue Goat player and Ole Roy surrogate at every press conference would be unbearable. Please Currrie do not hire little Wes.

Last year the Big South had seven teams in the bottom 50 of the country and only two in the top 200.

Remind me again how many Top 25 teams HOF Wes has beaten in the past eight years?

How about how many times he beat 20-Loss Manning?
