Old School Nintendo Game Thread - Game Open - Day 123 Ends at 1:30 PM EST

Is this banter again? Our lease expires soon and neither of us need to go back into the office for the next 4 months. There's a part of me that's thinking about moving to Boise. I've never been, but the internet says it doesn't suck as much as you'd think. It'd also be basically free to live there

Boise is awesome for Idaho.

Ha wife and I were considering something similar the other day. Not Boise but somewhere remote.

We looked more remote than that within CA and concluded that wifi in most of America is shockingly bad. I honestly would be concerned about my ability to work (read: banter on D1 overnights) from a lot of these towns. Honestly, we're also considering Salt Lake City, and most of that is because of Google Fiber.

which is part of reason why I think 2 mafia games need an indy. I think that was my biggest miss

I'm not sure you needed an indy or more mafia. If anything, I would dial back the civ info roles that lead to cleared civs. And post restrictions - that's the tuck rule / illegal defense of mafia.

And thanks for hosting - lots of creativity in the write-ups and lots of fun!

well run game. it's really easy for civs to string lynches together when a mafia from each team dies early. you can jump from lily pad inference to lily pad inference and before you know it, you've lynched multiple in a row. couple that with civs getting cleared for one reason or another, you're gonna end up with a civ win

I thought we were going to be in good shape after stacking 3 teammates on Gooner D1 and still having him live.

Unfortunately we couldn't overcome my inability to play as mafia, and somehow we had two guys die because "they had to be mafia 1".

Want some cheese to go with that whine? Our imperfect and only protection had to out themselves at the start of the game. Civ vigs are -ev and proved why here. The gunsmith role helped mafia more than it hurt them. All those guns killed civs.

Can we please STOP SAYING CIV VIG HITS ARE -EV?

That is just dumb / results oriented thinking and ignores the laws of probability.

The game is fundamentally a race between Civ day kills and Mafia night kills. Additional potential kills in the hands of civs are +EV. Even if the kills were rolled randomly by the mod, they would be powerfully +EV. And civs have information upon which to base their kills.

Anyone who says civ vig hits are -EV should be ridiculed.

Numbers had a great read on QT as a civ special there. Not being able to hit all our civ special reads was hard, 2 maf games are just different.

We read QT as a potential civ special and discussed hitting her on N1, but I refused to hit QT or Eagles on N1 the game immediately after they modded (and would again).

After that, didn't have any strong reads I'd be able to explain later, so decided to hold to N3 and got burnt.

Come to southern Portugal, my man

Also, Parlay stop patting yourself on the back. You were cop and revealed yourself on D3 with 1 positive hit in a 30-person game. And after how D2 went, an investigation on me was basically a waste since I wasn't going to live any period of time anyway.

Beyond that, it's not some mafia-sniffing genius to revenge vote and then investigate the first guy that votes for you.

Question for mafia 2 - How quickly did you deduce stuff about Mafia 1? Like did you figure out that Ganon had to be in the game due to Zelda's redacted role much like you all had Doctor Wilie & Mega Man. Were you looking for interactions between Ryala & another mafia much like you all had with Doofus & Gooner? Etc.

(this is Northern by the way)

I am living in the mountains. Literally the mountains and my wifi is fine - well, I had to get a cable internet through some podunk service I have never heard of and they had to run a line from down the road and across the street. Took about 3 hours, been fine since. Don't let internet connectivity drive your decision - Salt Lake City has some crazy weird booze laws, its not worth it.

Boise sounds fun, you should do that.

We speculated that y'all had to do stuff that was similar to us, but honestly we just read y'all like we were civs looking for mafia in a normal game.

Ryala's speculation on Hoop's powers on off-nights perked our ears a little bit. At that point we figured he was either the person who investigated me and Hoop on N1 and N2 (due to his dropping knowledge). When we found out that was rommy we still figured he was something due to his posts.

I wanted to hit you the night we killed tic but couldn't pull the trigger on it. Figured you might have been the person tied to Ryala based on the early game stuff.

Nice. I almost came out with the Kid Icarus role one day earlier. I was going to have a one time role investigation (use Palutena Bow to fire a light arrow to illuminate a player) and found you as Mega Man (mafia 2) since we were 100% positive Mega Man was the last mafia and pretty sure it was you. I don't think it would have really changed anything in the end and I decided to try to save that claim until the last day (where a mislynch was going to win for the mafia).

Google fiber is nothing special and salt lake city is a fucking weird place. Proximity to mountains is better than Denver but you can't buy cold beer at the liquor stores. WEIRD
