'19 Special & '20 Congressional Election Thread

Just saw a Cal Cunningham ad where he was talking about working together with both parties and standing up against his own party to tell them when they're wrong. The fuck?

It's reddish purple NC. He tends to out poll Biden in NC. So I don't give a shit what he thinks he has to say to win.

Sounds like standard "I'm independent and seek bipartisanship" fare.

Genuine question: will you care what he does if he does get elected? Or is winning the election literally the endgame?

It sounds like standard loser campaign speak in a purple state, but I’d much rather be working with that hand than whatever bad options Tillis has.

true, I just read this as a shot against progressivism

At some point, Democrats will realize they don't need to do that to win.

I don’t know who is on the fence in these races that needs to be swayed by that. You’re watering down your own platform. Meanwhile your opponent is going to run ads saying things like “I’ll support anything Donald trump does and suck him off in a church.” Why bother bosoding while running against that?

Absolutely. I would hope he votes no to someone like Kavanaugh and votes with his fellow Dems 90% of the time. And if he doesn't vote for the occasional spending bill with a few other blue dogs, then fine. I'll take that any day of the week if that's what it takes to get rid of Tillis. Getting 90% of what you want is way better than getting 0%. That's what we're getting 1 district over from mine with Spanberger after she upset Dave Brat. And if saying that helps to get some fence sitters to vote for you, then fine. Practicality over purity.

Cal Cunningham is probably the best NC can do in this cycle, no argument, but let's not paint a roster picture of him than he deserves - he's a warm body running as a Democrat.

Ha is there anything to suggest he won't just be a McGrath type Trump Democrat? That was my point, I don't really think he looks like a 90% party liner, more like 50 or 60, which, yea is better than 0. Sorta.

I think the appropriate phrase is not to let perfect be the enemy of good.

haha love to be awful at my job and just say that phrase every day

This might be shocking, but hear me out: just because a United States Senator doesn't agree with TownieDeac more than 90% of the time, does not mean he is not good at his job. Most importantly, it doesn't mean he is not a much better alternative than Thom Tillis.
