I never was an Alabama fan and in retrospect I see the boys from Fort Payne as being to country music what Dale Murphy was to baseball - a few great years but not sustained excellence over time. And I say that as a huge fan of Murph. I didn't consider duos such as Conway & Loretta as they had stellar solo careers. Flatt & Scruggs would be my first runner-up.
