CBM: X-Men '97 finale; My Adventures with Superman S2 May 25; The Boys S4 June 13

Yeah I rewatched it last night, and it really struck me how good Boseman was in that movie. He had to play it really understated by design (to allow Jordan to do his thing), and I think at the time a lot of the credit went to Jordan without realizing how tricky Boseman's role was.

Also! It reminded me how fucking good Kendrick's album for that movie was. I still have "Opps" in regular rotation (as any good Vince Staples fan should) but even the deep cuts on it are dope. "King's Dead" has one of my favorite Kendrick verses ever.

Yeah. He had to be a straight man who played off of all of these other vibrant characters but interesting in his own right. He had to balance being a superhero and a conflicted ruler who has his own journey throughout the film.

Casting is Marvel's secret weapon. They haven't missed yet.

So... who does Marvel cast to play T'Challa now?

By the way, it's worth checking out the discussion from October 2014. We were talking about what Marvel will do as actors got older. There are some gems in there.

They're not recasting T'Challa. Obviously.

The easy choice is to rewrite BP2 to have Shuri take the mantle, playing up that by her own account in BP, she's not ready for it

Sorry if "too soon" but I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering where the BP character goes from here. I really really doubt he'll get the Darrin from Bewitched treatment and some new actor comes along and just picks up from Endgame. Obviously the title of Black Panther can be passed on but how to resolve T'Challa? An offscreen death seems cheap, cobbling up a death from unused footage (the Carrie Fischer treatment) is also cheap but may be the best course. I know he "died" but making Michael B. Jordan the Black Panther sounds like an interesting path to me. These aren't actual predictions by the way, just spit-balling.

ETA - I began composing this before the two posts above, I was just slow completing it (multi-tasking) which is why it sounds like I posted without acknowledging posts from 5-10 minutes before.

That would be an interesting choice and I'd be all for it except the off-screen death would be weak. There's also having M'Baku battle Shuri and win the title of Black Panther as well.

Michael B. Jordan would have been an excellent choice if he wasn't already Kilmonger.

Emotions are raw now, but I think by 2022 people will be fine with Marvel having recast the role. The role of T'Challa is so important to the culture that it would be a shame for it to die with one man.

It'll be delayed. Agree with much of the above. Several ways to go. Off screen could have several heros, avengers, whomever, show up after getting their asses handed to them and losing him off screen. Enough good actors available to show their guilt about letting him down.

It’s already been delayed due to COVID.

I can’t see them pushing back a billion dollar film back much further.

To get it right? Absolutely. Imagine being the new actor that comes in to the role. Day

Just think, the next big bad - doom, kang - surprise attacks a group of Avengers off screen announcing his presence and the next movies build up to defeating him for sweet sweet revenge.

Suri could be the new BP. Or she could "hand pick" the next one while maintaining her chief marvel science role.

I'm good with recasting as well. They've obviously built up plenty of good will.

Shuri: "Just because something works does not mean it can't be improved."

Obviously we've all seen Black Panther several times at this point. I probably said this at the time. This is a brilliant political drama, family drama, and superhero film. So many different political perspectives are voiced in a short period of time. Each character has their own ideas and each conversation is rich with conflict. This film also shows what happens when a great country is overthrown by bad leadership driven by vengenance who just wants to burn it all down. There's a great deleted scene with a conversation between W'Kabi and Okoye that may as well be between a Trump supporter husband and moderate wife.

Watching the film confirms to me that Marvel needs to recast. The world needs T'Challa. And I'd hate to see another promising Black actor not get the opportunity to play him.

they're just not going to recast t'challa

it's just not going to happen

and besides, the whole point of BP is that the mantle transcends any individual person

agree the mantle transcends. Don't agree its a definite recast situation. Confident they can do either. do belive the sequel will be pushed back.

No doubt this is worthy of the tag "me of people care" but S5 of Lucifer was released on Netflix recently. Starting E1 now. I'm of the opinion that the show improved consistently from fairly trite and routine in S1 (basically CSI-Satan) to a rather good 3rd and 4th season so I'm hopeful the trend continues.

Woah...was that conversation really six years ago? Was I still in my 20's when we were discussing this? Wild, man.

A little further down we were talking about re-casting roles and re-boots and such. I think Marvel, for once, might need to take a page out of DC's books and begin thinking about the concept of a multiverse (which, presumably they will given the Scarlet Witch and Dr. Strange stories that are upcoming). I think the next Endgame level event they will need to build towards is Secret Wars (the recent version, not the 80's we need to sell some toys gimmick) where they could introduce different versions of previous characters and elevate characters like Doom to the worst of the worst status.

Earlier today I saw production on "The Batman", which had just restarted, was shut down due to a crew member having the 'Rona.

Plot twist...

Got my copy of Marvel's Avengers this morning. Can't wait until the PS5 comes out so I'll have it to myself instead of sharing my PS4 with my boys.

The reviews I've seen are solid. More love for the campaign than multiplayer and some thought that it would be better as a Ms. Marvel solo game.
