I actually hope he pardons himself and his whole family. To most anyone not part of his base, it'll be an inference of guilt. And it will take all pressure off the DOJ as to whether to file federal charges, which could cause a backlash at Biden. Then bring on any state charges.
Yes, the biggest criminal investigation threat to Trump is the NY State investigation into Trump's misrepresentations regarding his New York taxes, to banks to secure loans and to former business partners. That investigation is immune to a federal pardon and has been teed up for a while. Also, there are a ton of sexual assault complaints against Trump, which could be prosecuted in various state courts (where the assault occurred). Trump will be paying lot of legal fees over the next few years.
