2019-2020 NHL Thread – Playoffs???

to get 6 points on this homestand was great, especially with some top guys missing. gonna be a fun season

Man I really hope YTTV and Sinclair work this out, it’s great to read about the team doing well but it’s not the same without watching.

Since we moved in April we have had Hulu, which has mostly been great. We have the ACCN and haven't missed any sports that we wanted to watch, until hockey season. Apparently since October 2020, Fox Sports has not been available on Hulu. To watch the Canes, we're using my mother's Spectrum account to log into the Fox Sports app and cast to the TV. It's not ideal, but I guess Hulu is not alone in the Sinclair issues.

Run that win streak to five....Canes win in a shootout in Chicago with a goal by Svech after the first 5 guys miss. Some great saves by Reimer in the shootout.

Canes are good. Might need to make a move for a goalie since Petr is out for a while.

We didn't play very well and beat a team that we should beat. I really like this team, but they could use an upgrade at goalie. Petr is average at best, and he's not going to carry the team in a playoff series. Maybe he doesn't need to, but that's the obvious weak point.

It's really encouraging to see guys like Nino and Trocheck playing so well to start the year, and with Necas it makes for a really quick line. I have to think we're contenders.

I agree with all of this. I'm not sure which teams would be willing to deal a goalie this early in the season though. I was looking at Korpisalo and Merzlikens in Columbus last night and I would be happy to have either of those guys. Columbus would be wise to start thinking about selling one of those guys right now while their stock is still somewhat high. The BJ's season seems like it's about to implode, Laine is not the answer to their problems.

I would think the three games that our taxi players got action in helped their trade value exponentially. Bean, Lorentz, Rempal, and McCormick all looked in those three games. Those performances were HUGE for many reasons. Chances are we will need a few if not all of those guys again with covid problems this year, but their trade value is at an all-time high after sweeping both Stanley Cup squads last week.

Yes, we didn't play well last night but 4 of our guys were clearly not in playing shape and had not played in almost two and half weeks. Good teams do what the Canes did in that game. They hung on by playing smart and made their moves when it mattered. The Hawks keeper got that game to OT, Svech and company should have had multiple goals in the final few minutes. Let's see what Nedeljkovic has for us on Thursday, this is his last chance. If he blows in his first few starts I think we make a move for another goalie. I hope he shows up for once.

Jordan Staal is having a good season thus far too. Creating a lot of good chances.

Columbus would be a great place to look for a goalie. They will eventually have to trade either Korpisalo or Merzlikens. Both guys have all star potential in both. The return would have to be a top 6 forward at a minimum. Who would Carolina offer up to make this deal. Also, I don't know that the Jackets want to trade either of these guys to a team within their own division.

Bizarre offsides call gifts the Canes 2 points today. Never seen anything like that before.

The one upheld after video review?

Yeah. Officials and NHL confirmed Carolina was offsides for their 3rd goal near the end of the second period. At intermission, they acknowledge the on ice call is wrong and negate the remaining PK time for Columbus, but leave the goal on the board.

Just weird all around. Not saying the Canes didn't deserve a W. They played a great game, but that call swung the game.

Yeah, he certainly looked offside on replay.

Refs certainly went out of their way to make up for that call last night.

Torts did everything he could to give the Canes a win. Laine sat for almost two periods in a close game and he also benched a top 4 D-man as well. The Jackets probably didn't deserve to win that one last night. Amazing goal by Jack Roslovich to win the game.

This Canes team will go far once they get healthy.

Roslovich's goal is probably the best I've seen so far this year. Silky smooth. He was a very underrated addition. The one thing about the Jackets is no matter who is on the ice, they are giving 110% effort. Hence those two benchings. That's why Torts is such an effective coach in my opinion. Old school and maybe dying style of coaching. But effective nonetheless.

Goalies matter a lot when Stanley Cup playoffs roll around. Rarely does a team go far with mediocre goal tending.
