Official 2020-21 NBA Finals - Milwaukee Bucks win the NBA Championship!

Evidently CP3 snagged the final rebound that could have been Ayton’s 20th. Booker noticed it and was bummed, and Chris tried to appeal to the scorers table to credit Ayton after realizing his mistake.
That’s interesting, it was a really weird way to end the game. Another weird moment was the CP3 trainers dealing with his hands and using towels to hide it from the cameras.

Didn’t get Ayton to 20reb, didn’t get CP3 to 10ast, didn’t get perfect free throws…but ultimately who cares

Made me laugh in post game interview, announcer asked CP3 about his hand and he said I don’t know what you’re talking about. Interview over.

Maybe NBA players will be smart enough not to squeeze CP3's sore hand...

CP3 watched Euro Soccer and Hockey in his days off. Makes sense he would like that, as passing is key.

Wonder what NBA would look like with the hockey assist equivalent?

Ayton and Giannis were both the first players to get 15/15 in their first finals game since Duncan did it with 33/16 in 1999.

guess that means more minutes for Craig, Kaminsky looked terrible

Patty Mills named male flagbearer for the Aussie National Team. He'll be the first indigenous Aussie flag bearer.

Rui Hachimura will be a flag bearer for Japan 🇯🇵

Rui Hachimura will be a flag bearer for Japan

That’s awesome. Can’t imagine they’re have been many multiracial flag bearers for Japan. Watanabe is on the Japanese team as well.

The biggest legacy of the Dream Team is how many NBA players will be on all the Olympic teams and even how many NBA players didn’t even qualify like the Canadian team. Lots of players that we know and can root for or against.

Read a good article in The Athletic that explained why Kevin Love was added to the team. There’s no defensive 3 second in FIBA so Gobert can camp out in the lane. Pop wanted a reliable stretch 5 to get Gobert out of the lane. Gobert killed Team USA in the 2019 FIBA quarters in an upset win.

There’s also speculation that the Spurs are interested in taking on Love’s big contract and rehabbing his career. This would give Pop a chance to kick the tires.

Seems weak. The only major accusation is that he puts his name on other people’s scoops. That seems to be a weird game anyway. I don’t think it matters if his sources are front office or low level coaches instead of players.

He's exploiting Black media workers who have cordial relationships with players because he doesn't and putting his name on the product. His reputation got him a broadcasting gig that he is awful at on ESPN that the people he exploits don't have access to... I'm sure it's common practice, but it's a pretty big deal, imo, and the race-angle makes it especially gross considering how few Black men there are in positions like Woj's. It's just another fucked up dynamic that ESPN enables and uses to keep down women and POC employees.

Is he exploiting them by stealing their scoops? Or is it something else? Is ESPN crediting Woj over Black reporters? I’m trying to understand the mechanics.

Woj certainly shouldn’t be in the studio but that’s on ESPN for putting together a poor studio product. When ditching Paul Pierce throws the whole operation into disarray, that’s really bad.

From what I understand, Woj's sources on the organization-side are almost all front office and lower-level coaching staff. He also gets fed info by agents, but he evidently doesn't have much of a relationship with NBA players. A lot of the bigger brand players in the league evidently can't stand him from his days at Yahoo and before. That's a pretty big deal when your job is to break NBA-related news. He gets his scoops in part by relying on mediators who do the relationship work on the player-side and "breaks them" as Woj. His brand is just built on a lot of un-credited labor, a lot of which is Black media workers who don't get 1/10th of his opportunities that he does...

The upshot of the last few years of news is that ESPN seems to be an incredibly toxic workplace that is probably breaking all sorts of rules regarding sex and race discrimination in hiring and promotion.

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation.

ESPN certainly has major issues. This Nichols issue should have been carefully address in-house last year. They mismanaged it. ESPN fills a void because it needs to be filled, not because of the quality of their service. There isn’t much ESPN does well besides televise sports and even then they aren’t great at it and there isn’t much pushing innovation in the broadcast.
