Official 2021 College Football Thread: Grass Picker Named to CFP Selection Committee!

Michigan State -3 hosting Nebraska looks interesting. Michigan State has looked really good and while the Huskers played Oklahoma tough, they lost to Illinois and could be in for a let down after the emotional game against the Sooners.

The linemakers have not caught up with how bad Clemson's offense is. No chance that the NC State is getting 12, by kickoff. Clemson is an auto-play against until they can prove they can score. Oklahoma is in the same category; while they have escaped criticism because they pulled the games out; they struggled with Tulane (who Ole Miss crushed) and Nebraska (who lost Illinois); Sooners are go against until they prove they have figured it out. So funny to see Duke as a double digit favorite against anyone.

Speaking of Clemson, I enjoyed how Ga Tech kept gaining confidence and had a bunch of opportunities to win the game late. Really smacked Clemson in the mouth late in the 4th quarter.

Are others aware of what is going on with Presbyterian Football?

They hired a new coach, Kevin Kelly, from the Arkansas HS ranks. Kelly never punts, and when his team scores on the ensuing kick off, they always on-side kick.

Well, Presby opened their season with games against "colleges" named St. Andrews and Fort Lauderdale crushing each 84-43 and 68-3. Had Kelly discovered a secret analytic key to football success? Um... no.

Last Saturday, Presby played their first game against a fellow, FCS school, Campbell. The Campbell/Presby line was Campbell minus 10. The final? Campbell 72 Presby 0. Ouch. Presby went for it on 4th down 9 times and was stuffed on five of them. Campbell led 49-0 at half, and Campbell could've hung 100 on Presby if they hadn't called off the dogs. Unfortunately, Presby doesn't play a FBS school this year. That would've been fun.

Bet that experiment won't last long. I'm sorry, if you never punt and always go for it on 4th down no matter the situation, you're just not giving your football team a chance to win against legitimate competition. I know Presby is a tough gig, but that's just not going to work.

Wrong.

All gas. No brakes.

So going for it on say 4th and 9 on your own 15 is a good strategy? You only gained 1 yard on 3 downs and for some reason you think 4th down is the magic down to pick up 9 yards and if you don't get it, you're basically giving your opponent 3 points and probably 7.

Lulz.

Official 2021 College Football Thread: Fri Night Action: !! UNC leads UVA after 3 !!

Surprised that VA Tech dropped from #15 to completely out of both polls with a respectable road loss to WVU and a win over media darling UNC.

Sun Belt - 1 (No. 17)

RANKED vs. RANKED

No. 12 Notre Dame vs. No. 18 Wisconsin at Soldier Field in Chicago. Toughest test yet for an Irish team that is unbeaten but far from perfect.

No. 7 Texas A&M vs. No. 16 Arkansas at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The last time this was a ranked matchup was 2016.

BYU leads the Pac 12 at 3-0. If Oregon and BYU finish the season unbeaten they should play in the PAC12 CG.

Guess who is receiving some votes.......

Others receiving votes:
TCU 91, Liberty 56, Virginia Tech 52, Oklahoma State 51, Maryland 29, Arizona State 24, Texas 22, USC 16, San Diego State 16, West Virginia 14, LSU 14, Kentucky 12, Boston College 9, Wake Forest 7, Texas Tech 5, Stanford 3, Memphis 3, Louisville 1, Wyoming 1

Lets start 8-0 going into murders row and see where we are ranked. Probably around 12th-15th would be my guess.

Then win all 4 of the last games and then beat the coastal champ and then upset Bama in the 1/4 CFP matchup. Then, who knows what could happen from there!

Lulz.

Beamer's frustration really tells the tale: Having perennial powers that get all the best recruits is an almost impossible situation for the rest.

If you want to create a chance for real parity then allow programs to extend eligibility based on whether the player is in school with some outside maximum of years (4 years undergraduate + 4 years for med school/graduate programs to doctorate level). With the advent of NIL, schools may as well empower the players to keep working at football if they want to play longer while staying in school. This idea has its disadvantages but over time it would undermine the dominance of a few.
Or, create a draft situation similar to the NFL which, while it would require a sea change at the college and player level, it would still be up to the school and player to determine if it is a bad fit and if it is then trade. Trading would limit the ability of the dominant powers to control the landscape. If the SEC continues to drain from others, then The Alliance could always create an entirely different and separate model which is better for the schools and the players and the spectators.

With NIL, bigger changes should at least be considered.
