Banning Critical Race Theory

LOL - Requiring an ID to vote or maintaining accurate voter rolls is not an "attack on voting rights" or the new Jim Crow. Talk about a red herring.

But now that you stopped by, doc, do you have any thoughts on PhDeac's article from post #2433?

"It's not a norm for the physician to care properly" for black people???

Is that the correct link? It takes me to a story about a med student who does anatomic drawings (which are incredibly well done!) with the subjects being people of color. I don't see anything about how physicians care for Black people, unless I'm missing something.

Still after that elusive nugget for your confirmation bias, it’s the 4 out of 5 dentist recommend, colonel will always be looking for that one.

Imagine thinking there’s no systemic bias but taking issue with someone who dares to make anatomical medical drawings that aren’t of white people.

4th paragraph -

Ah, got it. Thanks.

Unfortunately, yes, that's true. That is what is meant by systemic racism - it shows up everywhere. That's why it is really important to teach about racism, anti-racism approaches, and unconscious biases. Medicine, like many professions, is working on addressing these issues, but obviously they still persist.

Kidney function is an interesting example. The most common way to measure kidney function is with a formula called glomerular filtration rate (GFR). For decades, different normal values have been reported for "African Americans" on lab reports. It turns out this is based on some pretty questionable science, and when different cut-offs are used for different races this affects who can enroll in clinical trials, who is eligible for kidney transplants, etc. So this whole approach is now being re-examined.

Yep. Imagine learning what different rashes look like, but only on white people (because that's what the textbooks and journal articles predominantly showed, until just a few years ago). And then you go to care for patients and have to imagine what a certain rash might look like on your Black patient.

I went through this with Angus the first time he posted that article. Posted a bunch of studies about how black patient’s pain is managed worse. His response was just “I didn’t know there were so many raging racists in medicine!!” Basically doesn’t believe in systemic racism so when we point it out he thinks we are calling all doctors racist.

It’s also a form of systemic bias that people like Angus and jhmd always think Black people are lying when we talk about our experiences with bias.

Seeing those drawings was emotional for me. Racism robs you of what you don’t even realize you’re missing.

Zero issue with his anatomical medical drawings of non-whites. Once again you miss the point.

My question was around the “It’s not a norm for the physician to care properly” for Black people statement.

I completely get the rash example but if Tunnels posters believe this statement is true due as a result of systemic racism, by default there has to be a shit ton of racial fuckstick scientists practicing medicine across the world.

So what % of care providers are still racist fucksticks? If it's not the norm it has to be at least 51%, right? Is it closer to 60%? 70%?

I don’t think you understand what systemic racism means. People don’t have to be racist to be part of a racist system. It’s not the people who are racist, it’s the system. Hence systemic. Your “by default” makes no sense whatsoever.

Angus basically admits that he understands one way physicians aren't taught to care for Black people, but thinks we think physicians who don't know how to care about Black people are racist.

Lol if there is anyone in need of a little CRT training it’s Angus.

DCDeac, here is another one.

Oh I understand it - I just don't buy it

Must be nice to be able to just choose to not believe in racism.
